Huge Comic Haul!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Huge Comic Haul!

Post by Professor Smooth » Mon Mar 06, 2006 3:51 am

A huge private collection from a former comic book collector in Illinois has recently been purchased and has been split up and put up for sale on ebay piece by piece. I have been extremely lucky to pick up several pieces of this collection.

I filled a Long Box in a week!

Justice Leage 1-47
Justice League Europe 1-22
Daredevil 192-246
Elektra Saga 1-4
Elektra Assassin 1-8
Excalibur 1-22

All for about 60 USD.

I also finally filled in a huge gap in my collection by winning an ebay auction for the complete Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars (featuring the origin (but not first appearance) of the Venom costume) for 15.50 USD.

I am one happy comic book collector at the moment.

Sweet!

Wait... the alien costume appeared in the Spidey-books prior to the Secret Wars issue where it was actually introduced?? Editor-misshap!

I guess not even Jim Shooter was an infallible editor...

But dude, you're one rich bast..! That can burn 60$ on comics in one fell sweep! With that said, considering these were first-issues of VERY collectable comics, this was the catch of the decade! :o

It was a difficult situation for Marvel with the alien costume. This was before the days of huge company-wide cross-overs. Instead of having all the characters that were involved with Secret Wars spend an entire year of their own comics dealing with it, they simply skipped it in their own books. In Spider-Man's case, he was abducted in issue 251 and was returned to earth in 252 with the black costume. Secret Wars filled in the gap of what happened between the that time period.

I'm not all that rich a bast... I just happened to have a couple dollars in my paypal account when these auctions ended.
