Game update

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Game update

Post by Metal Vendetta » Thu Mar 02, 2006 4:07 pm

Been working on this a lot lately, check out these screengrabs :)

This is a live map of the playing area which I created in photoshop and imported into the database as terrain types. White is ice, the various greens are tundra, grassland, scrubland, jungle, forest, rainforest, marsh, swamp...there's hills, mountains, wasteland, wreckage, water (obviously) and the black dots on Europe are the cities I've started adding. Oh and Plymouth is a Naval Base, which means aquatic Transformers can enter it.

Image

Once all the cities are done (in the whole goddamn world, no less) I'll add in oil rigs, power stations, rocket fuel bases and ruby crystal mines, all the sorts of things a Transformers world should have. All these will act like cities and buildings (and forests, rainforst and jungle) meaning that Transformers can enter and claim them and hold them against other Transformers.

There's a screengrab of Tracks flying over London here taken on my crap reolution monitor...looks much nicer on the laptop. Some of the figures look wrong because at this stage of the game I'm cheating ;)

Also looking towards adding Cybertron to the game. Been collecting place names and stuff but if anyone know of good Cybertron location resources please post them here. I have the Ultimate Guide map, but anything from the old Marvel stuff (maybe DW/War Within too) would be grand. [edit] actually I think I've just found what I need.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Many moons ago, didn't we have a topic where we compiled a huge list of canon (cartoon,comic,tech-spec) cybertronian locations? god knows what happened to that tho!

That's insane mate-top work. :)

How will it work? Will it be open to all, or will you give out passwords or something?

Yeah, I'm writing it all myself - it's a lot of hard work but totally worth it.

Speaking of which, I have a provisional map of Cybertron (to the same scale as Earth above) with Iacon at the top, Kaon at the bottom and Kalis, Altihex, the Rust Sea and everything else in between. Black is sonic canyons, yellow is metal, dark red is Rust Sea, and the dots are wreckage and warehouses...

Okay, the main course is this: I'm writing a browser-based Transformers game similar to, but ultimately different from www.urbandead.com (except in Kalis, where I hope it will work in almost the same way). To this end, I've created a huge MySQL database on my web server and a number of php pages that manipulate the database, thus forming a game. This screenshot shows tha actual game environment, while the two maps are representations of the game worlds - in this case, Earth and Cybertron. One of those squares Tracks is flying over represents one pixel on the Earth map.

So far I've built character models based on the 1st and 2nd year cars, seekers and cassettes. More to follow, eventually I hope to have just about every G1 Transformer in the game somewhere (although certain models like Galvatron will have to be unlocked or otherwise earned). Laater upgrades to the game will include Quintessons, Lithonians, Junkions, Humans (Robot Buster/Autobot Spike) and G2 Decepticons.##

Get it now?

I can only congratulate you on your efforts, this might just be quite a thing for the online community, and not just TransFans.

I'm guessing the only actual link available on the net will be here on TransFans, as to increase the amount of people that visit the site and such? :D
