Well done England Hotspur

That Joe Cole has come a long long way.
Our boys played well. Thought the team, without looking totally lush, looked like they mean business. Miles better then Urguay, who although had very good performances from the CBs and the two keepers, were very negative and crap to watch.

Some jerk att Aftonbladet (a swedish newspaper) has analyzed the game.
Here are some of his thoughts:
* Beckham seems lost. He sort of floats between the midfield and the right defender.
And it was Neville who took the offensive runs, and played the cross balls - not Becks.
* When Becks got substituted for Shaun Wright the play on the right side got better.
* England has to get their tempo up. When England conqoured the ball on the midfield, Urugay had lots of time to get in position.
* The jerk thinks that Becks is an awesome captain - but he hints that Gerrard may be better suited for the role (since Gerrard is more involved in the game, than Becks).
I didn't see the game - and I am just posting this for you to discuss it, or whatever

Beckham - Very good player.
However, cant see a place for him. Svennis can though. I thnk they love each other.
All Uruguay did was keep their shape. Only Forlan really looked like anything of a threat and he did not a jot really. Ferdinand thought about giving him some half chances a few times, but always decided not to at the 11th hour - actually, what I meant was that Ferdinand was lax and got caught napping a few times but since he has great recovery pace he always sorted it out. In my mind, King may yet get a starting birth with Terry.
Anyway, one of theirs scored a superb goal, 35 yard volley into the top corner. Cant do much about those.
Then they just kept on sitting. Gerrard didn't show a lot of urgency going forward, Cole did and looked a threat pretty much every time he got the ball. Beckham is not quick enough to consistently beat men and his passing was a bit gash - not helped by having a lone forward who was also a international rookie. Should have scored in the first half though, but pissed up his 1 on 1. Should have at the very least got a pen. Carrick is not going to drive through like Lampard or Gerrard.
Down the left England looked decent in the early stages, then Bridge got injured so that didn't help. Cole went inside more often after that, Uruguay were always going to have time to recover to breaks through the middle due to Carrick and Gerrard playing deeper.
In the second half that largely changed, we turned more of our possession and control on the game into chances, a lot to do with threats coming from both flanks. Obvious considering Wright Phillips is an out and out pacey, tricky winger.
Considering Uruguay had 8 men behind the ball for most of the game, we did pretty well. Scored 2, fashioned several other guilt edged chances that their keeper did well with.
Easily deserved it.

It's just you I think.
I can think of loads of examples when they've proven themselves fantastic against top class opposition.
Dont think the performance was half hearted at all, Beckham just has his limits. Gerrard was always running into space occupied by 3 players, didn't have the space in the middle to do much.

Oh well according to most papers, half the team got rated average, Gerrard under average and J.C top man.
