Free Online Antivirus???

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Free Online Antivirus???

Post by The Last Autobot » Wed Mar 01, 2006 7:07 pm

Hello people!

One question. What free online antivirus do you recommend me? I think my actual antivirus is corrupted so I want to try one from the internet to scan my pc (I think there is a virus avoiding detection).

Ive tried Trend Micro before and once Mcaffee (who detected a virus but couldnt -or more to the point didnt- delete if I didnt pay for the service).

Which site should I go?

Thnx in advance

My Norton 2006 copy just got stunned by Norton, seems they finnaly worked out how to stop hacked software... Ironic?

So I downloaded and installed McFee 2006 suite, and that ****** my comp right up today, crap software, it runs things via IE ? go figure...

I just bit the bullet and bought Norton 2006

i know that doesnt answer your question tho, the only free software I can think of is Bulldog

Thnx. The same thing happened to me. I had installed Norton 2006 (since december) and past Thursday it said me I needed an activation code. I tried the one I had used in the first place (one cracked here that would last 2126 days!!!) and didnt work. I uninstalled it and installed Mcaffee but went crazy (a few crashes and strange behaviour) Ive uninstalled it and now I have a Norton 15 day trial but my pc still runs strangely.

In one of my attempts to obtain a Norton code I inadvertently activated a trojan who blocked my internet but after various intents I got rid of it (or I think so) but because I installed this trial after I dont know for sure.

Here in Peru is like the paradise of pirated software. For less than 2 dollars you can get a cd with 20 different programs, so finding a legal antivirus in not that easy.

This site you posted is safe?

Anyone knows of a online antivirus who runs directly to the pc w/o installing it?

I have something called AVG, and something called ZoneAlarm. They work fine.

For online scanning try either
http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
or
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/

although Trend is quite good.

AVG is a very good free Antivirus programme and one i've used for a long time (although i've currently got AntiVir installed, but not for long as it's updating procedure is annoying the hell of me).

A few of the free ones I've heard are good include AVG, Avast, Solo, and NOD32.

From what I've tried I like AVG and Avast the best, but there are plenty of freeware ones out there to try out.

Yeah I know, it's a Microsoft product in Beta, and I was actually stunned that it was not a resource hog, nor that I was ever compromised by a virus.

What's even more stunning, it actually works. o.O

Though I still recommend using another ant-v, ontop of this just in case.

Well, I'm not sure if they have an online scanning-service like other companys, but I use their installed software, their called Alvil Software, and the name of the prog is AVAST.

It's a funny little anti-v prog, that is for free for all home users, but the company-version has to be paid for. :) What I like about it, is that it's so fast at everything, updating takes only a few seconds, because it's based on some kind of scripts (hint to Impactor: you are allowed to make your own special custom scanning-script or whatever it's called ) so the downloads are really small.

Also, I find it to be one of the fastest anti-v when it comes to actual scanning too.
