I like comics, How 'bout you?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Buffy - Huh?

I thought it was a four-parter, so was quite disappointed to get a To Be Continued last issue. But that?

Yeabuhwah?

I was really digging Diggle's Thunderbolts run. Now they bring in this new guy. If his first issue is any indication, you can add Thunderbolts to my list of dropped titles.

You know who a real kickass writer is? This guy Hickman, on Secret Warriors. That guy can write. I'd say he's one of the better writers on Marvel's staff. At the beginning, I was pretty sure I wasn't going to bite with Secret Warriors, but now it's a must have.

What else. Oh yeah. Read Naruto!
Anyone else reading Incredible Hercules - if not shame on you - the last six issues have been bloody brilliant
Is Pak still writing it? Because I usually find his stuff crap.

His first issue is out next week. Did you get it in advance or what?

I agree about Hickman's Secret Warriors. Suprisingly good, but I heard the series was shortened compared to his original plans. Maybe it's good, because it will be compressed.

When it comes to his FF, is Dark Reign: FF #1-5 necessary to read or should I just start with FF #570?

I also agree about New Mutants. I always loved the original series and this is apparently for people like me. :)

And Ultimate (Comics) titles are really good.

In order;

Buffy - agree. Saw the Gods bit coming as well. But not that!

Not read Secret Warriors yet (going to get trades) but their The List issue was a cracker.

Could not agree more about Thunderbolts (Ozz, it was out 2 weeks ago?) - i had heard good things about Rick Remenders stuff but the Cage/Iron Fist issue was dreadful - shoddy art, crap dialogue and totally out of touch with events elsewhere in the Marvel U. Shame because the end of Diggle's run with the original T-bolt crew was suh-weet (if a bit rushed in places). That said given this team consistently fails not sure why Normy keeps em around....

Hercules is co-written by Pak and Van Lente - i would say the latter's voice is stronger. If you are considering giving it a go read the 3 issue "Replacement Thor" arc (which was interspersed with a 3 issue Amadeus Cho arc). Or the Assult on New Olympus one shot which has some fantastic Herc/Spidey moments. Then again i don't mind Pak's stuff so maybe we just have differing tastes.

You can skip FF: Dark Reign - to be honest it was a bit random and about 2 issues too long. The first arc on the main title though, as Sprunker (i actively refuse to call you Bumblemusprime damnit) states, was all mind blowery.

And yes, Ultimate stuff is mainly bliss again - at least until Jeff Loeb returns. That said Armor Wars feels a bit throwaway, but Avengers and Spidey are bouncy bouncy, fun fun fun fun fun.

Anyone else read The List: Wolverine? Anyone? Bueller?

Really average comics out last week:
Angel
The Boys
The Boys: Herogasm

Usually really enjoy the Boys stuff but this month felt flat.

Deadpool Team Up was quite good.

And i think Captain America: Reborn is turning into a cast iron classic.

Oh, that's right, forgot about it, but Remender's not the new guy on Thunderbolts, Jeff Parker is. Remender's issue was a fill-in and originally was supposed to be in the middle of Diggle's last arc. Then it was moved further and became #137. Anyway Parker starts with #138, Sepulveda stays on art and it is going to feature the characters Diggle used, and of course Agents of Atlas are bound to show, because, you know, it's Jeff Parker. I'm surprised he didn't use their alternate versions every issue in his Exiles. :o

Ah, ok. Just assumed he was Mr New. Liked Parker's Exiles so hopefully T-bolts will come good.

Agents of Atlas is apparently set to become a regular back up strip in Herc.

Just finished reading the last issue of The Dark Avengers.

I always wondered what happened to one of the most powerful characters in all the Marvel Universe, Owen Reece, the Molecule Man.

He just kind of disappeared after Secret War in the eighties after defeating the Beyonder.

How does someone as powerful as Galactus disappear for so long?

Looks like Mephisto is with him.

I'm guessing these are the guys that are really pulling Osborn's strings?

So he's been in Raft for the past ten years. Huh.

And now he's working with Mephisto and some other characters I can't I.D. Anyone know who they are?

At a wikipedia-quoted guess: Beyonder, Zarathos, and the Enchantress.

Yep. But is it really them? Cos that is a ridicuous assembly of power. And would the other individuals involved really be gathered around a throne with Molocule Man at the centre?

Rebis was not saying its not supposed to look like him - just whether all 5 of those dudes are really there or whether its just one of them and some kind of manipulation.

edit!

Death's Head cameo's rather heavily in S.W.O.R.D 1. And to make things even better he is a) TF sized and b) original looking(ish)

Second Death's Head cameo this year :)

Giant Panda? Only interesting because you're not sure how it still exists?

an excellent article, my friend.

And yes, we do molest animals frequently. It's part of our motto: "From Modern Mythcraft to Mama Bears Mating."

Besty's Ultimate Spidey article is up.

Rather touching, as it was probably the first article he ever sent. All babies leave the nest.

Miserable, too long, overly impassioned TF 1 review on the way. Think it may have knocked Dr Who off schedule - i might just wait and review the xmas ones instead?

I can review the last Doctor Who for you?

"It's The Ark in Space, but with less plot stretched out longer than it needed to be, a stupid robot, no sense of subtlety, in no-way-convincing water zombies, embarrassing dialogue and some **** ******* about on a casio keyboard all throughout it. Ending was decent though and at least there was no Catherine Tate."

So, anybody else looking forward to the Siege then, btw?

I'm pretty pumped myself, what with the fan-gazm of assembled colourfully clad persons about to be scribbled down on page. :)

I must say, the time really is right, since all of the individual series that make out the basics for the Avengers ( solo-mags and diff teams) have quite possibly never been this good *all* across the board.

Dunno' about Marvels strategy of several concurrent mini-events tho... Feels like none of them quite get the kind of focus and weight to them that they could have if there were only one small and one big. Or something.

Did anybody pick up Imagine United #1?

I'm legitimately torn. It really does feel like a book that Image would have released around 1994, so I guess it's exactly what the different creators were going for. However, it really does feel like a book that Image would have released around 1994, so...

The book was ordered heavily, so a 2nd printing is planned. But next week, a special collector's edition of issue 1 will be released with a foil stamped cover. I just find that so incredibly appropriate. :)

The art in Astonishing X-men is some of the best I've seen this year. I don't really get into the whole X thing, but I think I have to get into this for the art alone. Phil Jimenez seems like the perfect choice for a Tranformers comic.

When the hell are we going to find out who Red Hulk is already?! Not only do they not tell us, they introduce a Red She-Hulk and don't tell us who she is. Seriously, enough is enough. I'm dropping this.

Reading some of the Realm of Kings stuff. Boring. Dropping it. Except Nova. Nova seems to be consistently good.

Finished reading G.I. Joe Cobra. Seriously, how did IDW get away with this? It's way darker than the darkest Marvel title. In fact, I hope Transformers doesn't go that dark.

Read S.W.O.R.D. Nice to see DH again, but this issue exemplifies what's wrong with Marvel. Every character has to give us some sarcastic quip or jab to let us know just how badass they are. Seems like more and more writers are falling into this kind of thing. After a while, it's not funny. It's just annoying. Bendis does this ad nausea. I think that's why I've found the manga stuff I've been reading to be superior. They mix it up more. Not everybody is out to strut their stuff, or proclaim how great they are.

The problem with using words like every is it is immediately possible to prove you wrong.

Agree on Red Hulk - dropped that sh*t ages ago.
