Is anyone watching this? Do you have a favourite sport? Or does no one really care?
It's quite popular here, especially the speed skating since that is where we get the medals from. Our boys used to win them all in the old days , but now we just have won a few. We're not so good at all the ski-stuff because we have no hills.
And I like the skateboarding and the figure-skating.

I know... all these Swedes at my office are telling how much more medals Sweden has won than the Netherlands.Obfleur wrote:It's really popular in Sweden - and we have won a bunch of medals
I have watched every hockey game - but when it comes to the other sports I only watch the highlights.
Good luck with the ice hockey today!
Figure skating is so cool! I saw it yesterday evening, and one lady did a jump I do for my martial arts class, the 'butterfly jump'. I can't believe you can do that on skates!
Legion: you don't have to do it yourself, you can sit in a nice compy chair and watch. And have popcorn and drinks.

I always think the winter Olympics is a tad elitest for me to get to excited over.
For all I know I might be the best skier/bobsliegh/ski jumper in history but alas no snow etc... in Bournemouth
On the other hand i know I wasted my chance to become an olympic sprinter, U might laugh but I could run the 100 meters in 11secs flat at 15 from a standing start.
Muscle plus a good start would easily have got me 1 sec off that time.
10 secs is olympic standard...
what a waste...

Watch the Olympics once in a bit. Though I'd kinda still like to know who it was that originally thought that hurtling yourself down a slick ramp of ice at upwards of 120/130ish kmh with nothing but a helmet to protect you was a good idea...
Y'know what should be an olympic sport? running from the police. They should set minor-offence criminals loose in a controlled area of a city [or whatever] and set the police out. Give the felons water cannons or something.
... and give the cops swimming flippers, it'll make it interesting...
And? Never seen Cool Runnings? Not much snow in Jamaica either.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:I always think the winter Olympics is a tad elitest for me to get to excited over.

I think it was following a good showing in the sprints that I was moved from Full Back to Winger in Rugby.
Didn't pursue a career there either. Obviously. Met one of the RAF brothers, tho.

Here in the States, people and the media spend more time grousing and lamenting the fact that we're not dominanting the Olympics, and how dare the other countries win medals when we were all set up to put Bode Miller on the Wheaties box than actually talking about or watching the Olympics itself.
Is Olympics singular? Hm.
People are like, "Why is skiing for a bit and then shooting a rifle a sport?" But just because I don't ski and then shoot a rifle doesn't mean I can't see living in a place like many of you ladies and gentlemen where, back in the day, skiing was a natural and essential way of getting around. And then you go out and you have to find something to eat, and then you're shooting and skiing.
From that point, it's just a hop, skip, and a jump to one bloke saying to another bloke that he bets he could ski out, kill something, and bring it back quicker than the other guy. Flash forward a lot of years, and boom, you're got a sport.
So yeah, the Olympics are cool with me.
