Since it's EmmVee's sis, I'm going to have a gander at it. May I ask what sort of musical direction their going into currently?
EDIT: Digging trough google I found one band with the old name, and a girl in it, but they were based in Maine...
Digging further, (using the new name) I found this site, http://www.fourthwallband.co.uk/ wich is obviously badly done, cause it's flash animation front-door wont work on a Firefox-based browser. However they are based in the UK, in Leicester of all places. Could this be it?
No... they are apparently only blokes.. and they are breaking up.

Rebis, do you have Winzip 10? The new version have a new kind of super-dense compression-method, maybe that is why you are having trouble opening it.
I recently got that version (I ussually use winrar, but I came upon a file with this format a while ago, and sadly, the current version of Winrar can't handle it..) and I can open it without any problem.
Listening to hold on now, I think Poison my eyes will be the best tho, because the title is quality.

This does seem more likely than the "EmVee didn't check his ZIP before uploading" theory.Predabot wrote:Rebis, do you have Winzip 10? The new version have a new kind of super-dense compression-method, maybe that is why you are having trouble opening it.

I will now acquire Winzip 10 (and add to WinRAR's helper programs!), and then see how Ms V's music has evolved since Beast, Now I Know and Just Stop.

Sorry guys, wasn't paying attention Was actually listening to the tracks with my housemate
Didn't think my Winzip was that recent, must've been updating itself. Anyway, hope you can get the files, I've been rocking out to them all day. Production is much better, too.
[edit] With regard to Wavelength, they had to change because there is already a Wavelength and there is a 4th Wall too so that will probably have to change as well. Band name suggestions in the usual topic please.

Have just listened to all six (and Kerbstone).
All sounds good. Can see (see?) where they've changed the shape of their music, while still keeping the same volume within the envelope. What the hell am I on about? No idea! Just lovin' the music, which is the important thing.
If they want to check band names before they try them out, I've found that www.allmusic.com is quite a good site for band names (among other things).
Oh, and I've probably said this before, but Kerbstone sends me a Prodigy/PWEI/a few other bands/8-bit coin-op conversion game vibe.

It's because the original ZIP fileformat was limited to a 32-bit filesize field, and in the ever-increasing world of making larger files smaller, it was losing out to similar compression fileformats, such as RAR, which doesn't have that limit.Denyer wrote:Bloody stupid of WinZip to break a fileformat but keep the extension. It's not going to drive people to their product, just create confusion.
WinRAR calls this new format ZIP 2.1. I might take a looksee into what the compression algorithms are, seeing as I did a final year project on that sort of thing for my degree.
There doesn't seem to have been any real improvement on compressing compressed files, though.

Mmm, and extension is fair enough -- saving out non-standard stuff by default is welcome-to-Microsoft-territory, though. It's a bit more understandable when the WinRAR lot release incremental updates, because RAR is a proprietary format.Rebis wrote:It's because the original ZIP fileformat was limited to a 32-bit filesize field, and in the ever-increasing world of making larger files smaller, it was losing out to similar compression fileformats, such as RAR, which doesn't have that limit.
Not that there's much to choose between any of them... it's like with MP3. Tons of better compression algorithms out there, but one has become a de facto standard.
People really shouldn't have to be worrying about their archiving software producing output other people can't read, which is why this development seems scummy. Few users need 64-bit length filenames; this is a company coffers oriented default.
