you can download some of their other tracks and some of their live gigs absolutely legit for nowt. Thought there might be some of our friends out in the U S of A who might like them too and not know about them, lets get them world domination!

Been singing their praises since about June, iirc... genuinely interested to see what people outside of the UK think about them. Not sure how well people singing in a Yorkshire accent about everynight UK town culture will travel...
Seeing them on Sunday night at the NME Tour gig in Cambridge. Wheeee.

I liked them before they were cool!
Now everybody likes them and how long is it before we see topman creating a range of clothing in the monkey's style, and the twattish
"i'm so individual, so I follow the trend, but i'm an individual" people jumping on the band wagon.
I was on the train recently, and a bunch of what ca only be described as greasy boys and girls got on, wearing their pretend skater look, acting like idiots. The worst thing though was their insistance of putting there speakers in their walkman to show us all how individual and alternative they all were. Now before people get me wrong I liked somee of these songs, but most have meaning to me, or most I was listening to first time around with mates at gigs, and when frequenting our local rock pub on our underage drinking sprees. However, they were about 14, and blatently seemed as if they had just bought a "beginners guide to rock/metal music to impress my equally shaded friends" CD.
Their playlist went
Poison
killing in the name of
smells like teen spirit
......livin on a prayer (hmmm)
and on and on you get it
My Mate who was with me has a love for rock and metal, after hearing killing in the name of for the third time turned to the main boy, who seemed to have all the girly followers hanging on his every word, mr cool if you like, and asked if he knew who sung killing in the name of, the boy replied "kurt cobain", to which my mate corrected him, and there began an argument because the boy and all his friends would not accept rage had sung the song, one of the girls said that she had a cd at home of kurt cobain where he sings that and poison!
I hate soddin Kids like that.
It's not.snarl wrote:If "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" is one of their good ones
Their best songs are:
- Fake Tales of San Francisco (identikit wannabe-American indie band baiting)
- A Certain Romance (chav baiting)
- Still Take You Home (minger baiting)
- Mardy Bum (miserable cow baiting)
- Bigger Boys & Stolen Sweethearts
- Dancing Shoes

Personally I don't like Arctic Monkeys, very dull. But I will still share with you my minor AM-linked claim-to-fame!
My band practices in the same warehouse complex that AM used untill they got famous.
My prediction for 'the next big thing' that will come out of Sheffield - 'The Darwin Theory' (no laughing at the name). They've got a very good emo-esque post-harcore type-thing going on. Just released their first album and I think they are supporting Muse on some dates on their Euopean tour. Much better than Frigid Monkeys
And they practice up the hall from me as well (and tried to poach our guitarist, but thats another story).

To be honest, I don't think I've seen anybody rational making them out to be the Third Coming or anything. It's just one of those things where 80% of people think "yeah, they're quite good", which obviously has a bigger cultural impact that 10% of people thinking "they're godly!"Best First wrote:i think they are ok, but not as good as a lot of people are makingthem out to be.
If that makes sense.
The media interest does tend to skew perceptions a bit and generate interest from places it really doesn't belong.
50 year old journalists extolling the virtues of Ritz to the Rubble? Having a laugh, surely.
I think she's brilliant so long as she keeps her mouth shut.as an aside, i hate Jo Whiley.
