Coffee and tea.

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Coffee and tea.

Post by Obfleur » Thu Feb 02, 2006 1:30 pm

Both of them contain caffein, right?
But which of them contains the most amount of caffein? Is there a big difference?

(I understand that this depends on how much coffe grind [right word?] you use, etc. But maybe there's an average or something)

By volume, tea contains more caffeine than coffee, but you can make coffee far stronger in a solution. Or something like that...

In an average cup (particularly from a café) coffee is likely to be stronger.

Yeah I drink a lot of tea but on the rare occasions I try coffee (about once a year on average) it's usually really strong and trips me out a bit.

Per cup, regular coffee contains more caffeine than regular (black) tea.

http://wilstar.com/caffeine.htm

See the bottom of the page for details about coffee and tea. Coffee has about twice as much caffeine, or more, than tea.

Yah! :D You know that's why the swedish people drink more coffee than anyone else, 'cuz they want to get dat' feelin' in da mornin' when they's load up them coffee and start to do the... trippin'! and trippin'! n' trippin!

It's strong stuff. Thank god I don't drink much tea (mostly because I think it tastes pretty much like warm water... Sun tea is better than most tho, more fruit for your buck) or else I'd feel like I was breaking my clean livin' with them druggies. :(

I drink coffee, but have never had that caffeine buzz. It's hilarious watching American shows (sorry all US people here) that depict someone trying coffee for the first time getting so hyperactive all over the place as if they've been poppin E's

Preds - you're completely clean? Not even caffeine? Steer clear of chocolate too, then?

I know, it's crazy. It's like "oooh, no - you're not old enough to drink coffee!" and then they do and they're like "whooooo!!!!!! bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!" as if it's the most potent thing in the history of forever.

I drink coffee, and it's like "yep. coffee. okay. what next?"

That said, the Futurama episode where Fry drinks 100 cups of coffee (or was it 300?) is gold.
Grrr. Argh.

It's like cigarettes, if someone who's never smoked before tries a cigarette they get a massive headrush (followed by a laxative effect), while hardened smokers will feel less of an effect. I almost never drink coffee, so when I do I really feel it.

Coffee has a bad effect on me.

It creates a lot of activity/unrest in my head, while it does not make me any less tired. Also, I does something nasty to my intestines/bowels.

So I had to give it up, even though I drank no more than a cup per week.

Like the smell though. :)

Yup, same effect on me. Well... when I was at my height of drinking it, anyway. I still cannot believe that there was a time when I used to be able to drink an entire pot of coffee.

Now I'm down to a couple of cups per day. I drink monster amounts of tea instead. :D

I have a real weakness for fancy overpriced coffeeshop stuff, though. Mm, overpriced flavoured coffee...

Me too. :) On my holiday in Barcelona I spent a relaxing morning in a Starbucks (which we don't have in our country) drinking those fancy coffees and eating a brownie.

I'm now on herbal tea only. Very occasionally I take black cinnamon tea or decaf cappuccino.

I guess I'm not 100% clean, more like 99% clean. I never really go out and actively buy chocolate candy (or any kind of candy) but I do rather enjoy it when given some.

Also... a few weeks ago I bought a box of chocolate cookies and ate it all trough the course of a week. :( I wanted some luxury hunger-dampener, since I'm so lazy I hardly cook anymore.

But there's so little caffeine in chocolate... And I eat so little... aaww CHUCKS!

From howstuffworks.com:

Typical coffee contains 100 mg per 6-ounce cup. This is the same amount as one tablet of No-Doz or similar caffeine pills.

Typical brewed black tea contains 70 mg per 6-ounce cup, so almost 3/4 of coffee.

Typical colas, like Coke, contain 50 mg per 12 ounce can, so 1/4 of cofee.

Typical milk chocolate contains 6 mg per ounce, so 36 mg per 6 ounces. About half tea and less than half coffee, so explains why chocolate is a mild buzz, if any. No info on dark chocolate.
