I guess it depends if you're actively not interested in Jack the Ripper and the associated tales. It is indeed entirely about the 'Jack mythos', as it explores ground much richer than just 'who was Jack the Ripper'. If you've no interest in that, yeah, perhaps stay clear. But it is absolutely one of Moore's best works.
It has some interesting comment on societal control through religious, occult and secret conspiracies. It's also, simply, a very powerful story. There are extensive notes for each chapter in the back of the book, detailing the historical references and the research Moore did, which are themselves an interesting read. The art and storytelling tools used are fantastic.

Cheers for the details, Preds, I think I will pick up the Mary-Jane digests. I loved how the comic I read was about her, with Peter and Spider-Man being completely tangenital. It was a surprisingly enjoyable comic.
Yeah...I skipped Ares but have been kinda interested in it. Might go back and pick that up.

The Essential Luke Cage is an absolute steal of a comic, like all the Essentials, and features the Cage vs Doom storyline I mentioned.

Marvel's essential's approach kind of bugs me - they released the fisrt 4 x-men i fairly rapid succession and then... nada.

amazon.uk says #6 is out but #5 isn't...eh?
Vanilla amazon says they are both out.

I mentioned the trade paperback list earlier, it's a handy reference tool I use to keep track of TPBs. If you scroll down the Uncanny entry, it lists the Essential details.

I know what you mean, it can be frustrating waiting on something you're really into and not seeing it come out in favour of, oh Essential Tomb of Dracula or something.
I'm still waiting for volume 2 of Luke Cage and then (hopefully) volume 1 of Power Man and Iron Fist.
Essential Iron Fist also rocks, btw. First appearance of Sabretooth, for the X-Men fans.

I bought the first 6 trades of Essential Amazing Spider-Man, because out of the first 130 issues, I only have a few dozen. 50, tops. Volume seven gets into where my collection really starts. From issues 160-current, I'm only missing a couple dozen issues. Still, at under 20 USD, it might not be a bad deal.

I can not wait for an Amazing Spider-Man omnibus to come along.

I just got an Amazing Spiderman trade from the library, it contains "The Conversation" and "'Nuff Said", plus a few other stories. Great stuff.

i think maybe i just lost interest as they suddenly seemed to start taking ages to come out.

Orbital Comics opposite the Astoria on Charing+ Road is pretty good - James who works there is from teh Moon and they have a largish selection of imported TFs across the back wall.

You can even pick up a copy of the Transfest comic if you want.
