Kobe Drops 81

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Kobe Drops 81

So what do you guys think about this?

I can't stand the guy, but I gotta give him his props. Freakin unbelievable performance. I can't even score 81 points in a video game.

'scuse my ignorance (I know nothing :D ), but what would be an average score in a game, by way of comparision?

In pro basketball, people go "wow" when someone scores 50. 60, people are shocked. But 81??? That's just unreal. Like I said, I can't even do that in a video game, where you can pretty much do the impossible.

The last time someone scored that much was only once, by Wilt Chamberlain when games were in black and white TV. And Wilt was a seven foot monster playing against skinny white guys when he did it.

So he ran around the pitch (diamond?) 81 times, or he hit the ball out of the park 81 times? Is that like a touchdown?

Sounds like he chucked it through the net enough times to score 81 points. I think you get two points if you get it in from up close and 3 if you get it in from outside the area... or something?
Grrr. Argh.

It's actually when that bowler guy swings his arm in that big circle and hits down those sticks (stickets?) while that guy swings at the ball with a flat board.

at a lower level of football tho.

Back to basketball, I understand that its a team game but the way its played tends to lend to one or two men scoring no?

out of interest, didnt M.Jordan ever achive somthing similar?

No, the highest Jordan ever scored in a game was 69.

It was the FA Cup! The most prestigious competition in the history of forever!

Or at least that's what the BBC told me. :(

Ok thats just ridiculous. I cant stand Kobe but that is freakin amazing. It really is frustrating that any and everytime we talk about a sport that interests us you look down your noses at us like 'there is no sport other than our football'

I'm not sure what padding Besters keeps talking about... :o The way we play it here in sweden you just wear shorts and a thin net-shirt, and as far as I can see, it seems to be the same in the USA.

Granted, I don't really know much about Bascet-ball, only how one did it in gym-class. Incidentally I hate ALL ball-games equally.

No, wait. I think Ping-pong can acctually be enjoyable with the right mates, for some nonsense pinging-around-everywhere ball-play.

Yes, I definitely prefer Brazilian or Argentinian. :p

Returning to the topic, is frankly incredible he managed to score that amount of points!! And taking in mind the very competitive nature of the game and -furthermore- the abbilities of the rest of the players. After all he didnt face amateurs.
