Doctor Who Stateside

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

The Sci-Fi Channel has just brought the rights to screen Doctor Who (new) Series One in the US. For fireworks and more details, see the BBC's Doctor Who site

Still a prime time slot though...

I take it this is why the American box set was suddenly pulled from the schedule?

Is there really a market for this? Most of the Doctor Who fans in the US will have already seen the eps either by way of bittorrent, soulseek, limewire, or just the "custom" DVD sets that are widely available.

It needs to be learned that, in today's society, if something is not available immediately in one place, it will still be aquired by those who want it.

But woo, I can finally watch the new eps on my bigscreen and not on a computer monitor!

What about those who want it but don't have the facilities to acquire it by the aforementioned methods?

Also, showing has the potential to bring it to a new market. Those who catch it by accident, are intrigued by a new programme, yadda yadda yadda.
Grrr. Argh.

Nah, still a market... tech geeks are a subset of geeks in general. New demographics to reach, too. New generations.
