Whats your fav Extensions and themes?
My theme is called iFox - a sort of iPod ish minimal theme.
Fav extensions are:
Fasterfox - which is a nifty lil server busting RFC that increases download rates to silly speeds! - I get at least 2x my normal rate. and page rendering is increased.
PDF Download - This ext opens PDF's in a new tab or window, which I like.
Tabbed Browser prefs - Everyone should have this, it controlls all the tabbed options, like open links in a tab not a window... it should be built in.
Colourfull tabs - adds colour to my tabs, pointless but cute.
Image Zoom - Hold right mouse button, roll my mouse window and enlarge and gif/Jpeg on the screen, kind of usefull to me.
Customise Google - I freaking loves this plu, as google is my home page (well the FF version) this Ext predicts my type, and shows u the number of hits to your search, this helps me find the most popular results quickly. not to mention after a search has taken place u can link your search into every other popular search engine, Yahoo etc on a click.
It also blocks google from making a record of your Pron searchs etc...
So what the rest of u got?

Clone Window -- preferred default behaviour
IE View
QuickTabPrefToggle -- I forget why I have this installed, and it seems broken in 1.5 anyway
Nuke Anything -- invaluable for printing
Google Pagerank Status
Download Manager Tweak -- although I don't use this much
Tab Clicking Options -- double-click to duplicate is my preferred default
Adblock
Copy Plain text
ReloadEvery
DownThemAll
UserAgentSwitcher
Nightly Tester Tools -- force extension compatibility
SessionSaver -- invaluable
BTW, have fun with the prefetching if any site you visit happens to inadvertently link to illegal porn... or you're browsing mail through a web interface and there's a "delete" link on messages, etc.
There are very good reasons for the default browser settings being what they are. This is stuff people basically shouldn't be messing with unless they fully understand what it does.

It's called Fasterfox... first, make sure you're running with RFC compliant options, otherwise you're screwing over anyone else trying to access the same site -- and probably not increasing speed, because the server can be configured to kick clients that leech through n>x simultaneous connections. You're also limiting your own access if you have an ISP that caps or throttles usage.FastFox sounds nice though.

It has settings FasterFox that enable quicker rendering of the page, from what I can tell it deff is faster then the standard FF render engine.
Didnt know about the other streaming issues - I di have that link cacheing thing turned off tho because I just thought that would slow my own connection down.

It's the same renderer. All it does is prioritise certain process threads and minimise intended procedure delays. It's not on by default because the browser is intended for use on a wide range of hardware and in situations where a user may be running other applications simultaneously.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:It has settings FasterFox that enable quicker rendering of the page, from what I can tell it deff is faster then the standard FF render engine.
There's also the fact it forces a great deal of re-rendering for very little improvement... here's what's going on, courtesy of one of the core developers:
http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/007164.html
Most of what Fasterfox is is simply an interface on settings people can manually change through the about:config registry if they know what they're doing...The second change, setting the initial paint delay at zero, may get you some content on the screen faster, but it's worth noting that it will dramatically slow down the time it takes the entire page to display. Here's what's going on. Gecko, Firefox's rendering engine, is trying to optimize between the cost of waiting for a bit more data versus doing more painting and reflows as new data comes in. Waiting a bit longer before it starts painting the page gives Gecko a chance to receive more content before chewing up CPU cycles to render and reflow the document. If you drop this value down to zero or near zero, that means you'll see the page start displaying a bit earlier, but not having received much data in that short interval, you'll have a lot more paint and reflow cycles to complete rendering of the page.
The defaults are sensible unless you're working on an intranet. Having a fast connection isn't relevant beyond a certain point, because external servers don't respond at those speeds.

Denyer - WHat about Downloads via Faster fox, ive noticed from certain servers, like Apple and MS Im getting daft DL rates from them, and with FF turned off they seem more normall?
Eline - If you go to the top menu - Tools - Themes - then get more themes, u will be taken to Firefoxs Themes page. thers lots to look at and choose from, some are bad, some are off the wall, and some are pretty cool. U can install themse, and it keeps them in a list for you, then u can just pick and choose what u want from all your old or new themes.
Extensions works the same way

Just use a download manager for sites that can support that throughput. Most can't -- and some that are run by savvy folk will just kick you altogether if you exceed RFC.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:ive noticed from certain servers, like Apple and MS Im getting daft DL rates from them, and with FF turned off they seem more normall?
The web only functions as well as it does (which isn't terrific at times, anyway) because of co-operation between software developers and server owners.
Yeah, just go to Tools > Themes > Get More Themes.Eline wrote:I didn't know that they had themes!
Is that something like a new cover for your mobile phone? And can you get them from the Firefox guys?
Personally I have six navigation buttons, the address bar and the menus for Firefox all on one line to save space, so changing the theme is a bit pointless...
