Chronicles of Narnia

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Chronicles of Narnia

Post by BB Shockwave » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:32 am

Well, I watched it yesterday and was pleasantly suprised. It was quite good, IMHO.

Good points - Unlike in LOTR, the writer/director didn't alter the story or the characters radically. What changes were made were not huge ones, only to help in drawing out the pace (the original book is very short) and some characters were more fleshed out. Especially Edmund and his betrayal and redemption was done better then in the book.

The battle scenes were really cool - I felt like I'm watching a Heroes game in live. Unlike in LOtr where all you saw was -slash-slash- and too quick camera pans, here you got to actually see what was going on, not just battle frenzy. Not that lifelike, but I liked it better nonetheless.

-Bad Points: compared to other movies, the CGI was shoddy. THis was especially bad in Aslan's case, as he should have been majestic, yet the face animation was done pretty badly on him.

The white witch was a very bad actor... she alway had that funny expression on her face, like she was being scared or just clueless. I dunno if maybe she wanted to look emotionless and evil, but it didn't really work.

And, of course, when I compare it to LOTR, the original story of that is much better then any Narnia book.

That said, it's a enjoyable movie if you like fantasy, and the battle at the end is really a big scene.

I didn't have any sympathy what so ever for that ******* **** Edmund.
I hated him.
He was stupid. I mean really really stupid. Like he had brain damage or something.
I would never ever forgive him for that stupid **** he did.

I sat through the whole film hoping he would die.
He was irritating, stupid and ****** up.

[composite word including 'f*ck']
Can't believe I'm still here.

Yeah, but he was their brother. I bet they beat him up when they went home, though...

Important lesson learned - when you are being told that there is an evil witch who can turn people into stone and you met the verysame witch, just don't help him. Dumb*ss.

In the book, it was actually because the Turkish Delight was enchanted - if you ate one, you desperetly needed to eat more. Like drugs... Don't ask me, I don't even know what kind of a cookie it is.

Well it got me bored around halfway through RTOK.

Btw, how many movies of Narnia do they plan to make? There are about 6 or so books if I recall right.

Only a couple of them are considered classics tho. And they better get a move on or the kids will be grown up. (Look at Harry Potter... Draco Malfoy's an old man! ;) )

I liked it. :) One of the better fantasy-movies I've seen.

Well, I sure liked it better than the Potter-movies atleast!

Positions itself above things like Krull, and I acctually like Krull.

I'd say it postitions itself somewhere in-between Potter and LotR. Wich is pretty much I would say, what the books do too. I rather liked most of the cgi. Hhe only acctual bad thing I thought, was beavers first appearance, it's a bit obvious in some of his moves then, otherwise it's perfectly good. I had no problem with Aslan.

And may I say that they chose wisely when the picked his voice-actor?

The soundtrack could have been catchier, but it was majestic and mood-setting.

Yeah, music was fabulous. And the voice actors were good. Maugrim's voice actor was quite good, I think he sounded familiar.

And btw, I'm not sure but wasn't Mr Tumnus the same guy who played one of the hobbits in LOTR? Merry or Pippin...

Yeah, I just checked the cast myself...

Funny thing that the director of the movie is Andrew Adamson - Son of Adam, get it? :D

Edmund didn't know about that bit though. Besides, who's to say what's evil? It's only as Edmund spends time with her that he realises that she actually is.

Cookie? TD isn't a cookie - it's more like jelly, I suppose. It's also bloody lovely stuff, and during the war it would have been a luxury the kids weren't allowed.

In my eyes, there was no necessity at all for the stuff to be enchanted - all it relies on is a greedy little brat with a huge sweet tooth.

And I think Tilda Swinton is lovely.
Grrr. Argh.

1. Edmund tells the Queen/whatever that his sister has met Tumnus.
2. Tumnus gets kidnapped.
3. Edmunds sister talks about a evil witch that will punish anyone who hangs out with humans.
4. The Beavers talk about the evil witch.
5. Edmund thinks "Oh well, time for me to go see that strange lady!"

Edmund is a filthy piece of stupid ****.

So?

Edmund doesn't know she's evil. Okay, there's a pair of talking beavers telling him that she's evil and has had his sister's friend kidnapped, but let's look at that in more detail:

- The source of this information is A PAIR OF TALKING BEAVERS.

Ignoring the frankly ludicrous surface, there is absolutely zero evidence to say that they're the good guys and that she's evil beyond the fact that they say so.

And, on the flipside, you have a very nice lady who gave him free sweets.

So she had his sister's friend arrested? She's queen - Tumnus broke a law. Maybe it's illegal for the animals to fraternise with humans because the animals are evil and might corrupt the humans.

And anyway - she has Turkish Delight.
Grrr. Argh.
