Emule, Low Id and Firewalls. A little help!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Emule, Low Id and Firewalls. A little help!

Post by The Last Autobot » Sat Dec 31, 2005 8:53 pm

I ve been using EMule (0.46c) for a couple of weeks and I keep having a low Id. Ive disabled Windows Firewall, open the ports and every time I check (with Emule options) the tcp port is not working. I have Norton antivirus now installed (2006) and I set its firewall with Emule as an all "conections allowed/permitted" but I still have the same problem.

With my Ares there seems to be no problem at all.

What should I do?

How are you connected to the internet?

If it's through a router, you will probably need to open the specific ports on there too. Although, I would've thought if that were the case, you'd've done that already as you use Ares?

Have you made sure all connections are permitted in both directions for both TCP and UDP?

Try this page for pointers: http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/help.cgi?l=1

Well in Nortons firewall Emule is "all permitted" and Windows firewall is disabled. Where else should I look for?

even if norton has emul fully permitted, you might find that yoiu need to open up specfic ports for tcp. emule has habit of usuing unusual ports for file transfer, can play silly buggers wih emial scanners as sometimes try using port 110 evenb!!

[edit] oh and hope you got some sot fo firtewall proection if you switch off the windows firewaal, best not to be on roadband with out anything[/edit]

um, having managed to decode my initial post...

i'm not familiar with norton firewall really, does it have a "learning mode", ie. the feature of alerting you when a a program tries connecting to the internet? if so, that's the easiest way.
otherwise, i'm not sure, off of the top of my head, how to go about enabling specific ports in that one i'm afraid.
