If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I hope you've all had a good 2005 and if not, i hope 2006 is a better year for you, i'm personally hoping for some (not so) small miracles to happen this year personally, so hey-ho...

about 6 and half hours to go until the chimes of midnight here, let the drinking commence!! (if it hasn't already, i'm starting late this year)

A happy new year to everyone... I'm sitting here alone at home, cause all my family is somewhere else.

My best mate is already drunk as a punch-line and hanging about with other people equally drunk that I don't know.

My mom called me an hour or so ago and told me not to sit around at home alone on new years eve. I have no intention of meeting them this evening tho, since her new green-card grubbing husband is also violent and abusive towards her. So rather not see that face tonight, it might get broken...

My younger cousins was over and put a belated christmas-present in the mail for my sister and me, while I was asleep earlier today. I was thinking about going over there, but I'd feel as if would be intruding, and that's the last thing I want.

My gramps that has begun to go senile this/last year had taken a glass of vodka, and was feeling to tired to do any festivities, so I can't go visit her either. Oh well... What's everybody else doing then?

Pred's, sounds pretty crappy, hope it gets better for you.

On a another note, there is racist content in your post, and you should edit it asap.

Anyone worked out why some nationalities abbreviated are supposedly offensive, whilst many Brits and Aussies actively encourage theirs? And who decides, exactly?

**On topic** I'll try to be a little bit cheery.

HAPPY NEW DRUNK YEAR LEGION!!!! :)

**Off topic**
Thank you Hound. Corrected. I'd also like to point out that I think that's how rascism really starts, it's not about crap you learn, or about things you don't know, it's about personal events between people, and since they're so different, no-one sees the point in trying to understand the other ones point of view on the conflicting matter at hand.

I think it's the nationalities themselves that does it. And it's determined by the collective cultural humoristic and satirical heritage, humour is one of the most diverse and shifting things in cultures.

i think its largely about historical usage, context and/or and the minority status of the group.

Was it really 20 years ago when I first read Target: 2006?

It's only a bit over 19 years, wasn't it first published in late Summer/early-mid Autumn?

20 years ago we were reading Crisis of Command.

Happy new year all!

I feel awful, passed out round some random stranger's house where we ended up for drinks after leaving the pub, got up and started drinking again. Didn't stop drinking til 11 on sunday. Still, wicked time had, getting the ol' flashbacks slowly but surely though and so far, nothing to be too ashamed of. :D

We control the weather through the wanton abuse of our natual resources?

Pass.

2005 was a bit rubbish all round. Hopefully the commencement of a new arbitarily-designated orbital cycle will signal an upturn in my fortunes.

I think I received more hugs in the first hour of this year than I did all throughout last year... I think I was also drunker than I had been throughout the entirety of the year...

Will need to make apologies for my Batman routine. Apparantly I left without saying goodbye to anybody... and without anybody seeing me go. Hrm.
Grrr. Argh.
