Posting the news on seibertron is a bit complicated. The mods are very limited in what they can and can not do. I'd suggest laying off for a bit. I'm not saying you're wrong, of course.

Same as disagreeing with anyone else...Predabot wrote:I didn't know it was possible for Denyer to get into an argument with a moderator?
Worked up? I've never been hugely keen on people putting words into my mouth (I don't think anyone is) and it's not something I'd ever intentionally do to anyone else whilst doing something that'd change their posts. After too much caffeine and not enough sleep, perhaps, but not whilst aware.
It's simple politeness to mark a staff replacement or edit.

Well, reading the discussion (and not having seen any of the PM discussions referred to in the thread), you're making a sensible suggestion that will sort out the problem. Maybe you've gone on about it too much, but the way it reads, Ryan's the one coming across as unreasonable for rejecting a simple and easy quick fix that'll sort the problem till he works out a coding solution.

Denyer,
I appreciate your concerns and completely understand what it is you are asking. The only thing I think that you are doing that is unreasonable is that I addressed your concerns via private message but you wouldn't let it drop. The entire staff is aware of the problem and I am aware of what needs to be changed from a programming perspective. I've also told you that this problem is one of my top priorities within the next month. I've asked that the news moderators make sure that they give proper credit to the original poster until I've had proper time to address this issue.
You and I have had at least 1/2 dozen private messages about this which has spilled over into the public discussion and now here. I think you are being unfair in asking that I deal with this right now and I think that you are being unreasonable but not just accepting that I'm aware of the problem and that I plan on addressing it in the near future. I'm swamped at work, it's Christmas, and it isn't the all-ending top priority on my list at the moment due to the holidays and such.
I don't understand why you can't just drop it for the time being nor do I understand why you're making it into such a big ordeal. You're really being unfair to myself and my staff. I wouldn't do this to you, especially if there was a similar situation here and you had ackowledged my concern(s) and let me know that it was on your list to fix in the near future.
Can you please let this rest for the time being until I have a chance to look at this after the Holidays? I would really appreciate it if you could work with me on this. I promise I will resolve this problem within the next month, hopefully sooner.
If this situation really bothers you this much, then please don't post on my site until I've had time to handle the situation the way that I want to with programming. I agree with you and I don't think your initial request was unreasonable at all but I do think you not letting the situation drop for the time being until I've had a chance to resolve it is unreasonable.

Because it's really easy to do something about it—what's coming across is that nothing will be done for now because it's turned into a sticking point, regardless of the sense or simplicity.Seibertron wrote:I don't understand why you can't just drop it for the time being nor do I understand why you're making it into such a big ordeal?
If you don't understand why someone would dislike their name being attached to things they didn't say, I doubt anything said here can or will make a great deal of difference to that.

I completely understand that and I've asked that you be patient until I address this issue with programming. If everyone posted messages that could be quoted in the news stories, then your solution would be viable. However, a lot of the messages that we turn into news stories really can't be quoted which is why I need to address this from a programming perspective.Denyer wrote:Because it's really easy to do something about it—what's coming across is that nothing will be done for now because it's turned into a sticking point, regardless of the sense or simplicity.Seibertron wrote:I don't understand why you can't just drop it for the time being nor do I understand why you're making it into such a big ordeal?

How about we compromise? I'll address this issue late next week when I return from the 1st half of my Holiday vacation and will make it my top priority at that time rather than getting to it sometime in January. Is that fair?

That's not quite what I meant. If whoever's writing the news story replaces the post, puts their news story inside quotes and signs it at the end, it looks in the thread as if the person starting the topic quoted them but it's also clear that what's written doesn't "belong" to the thread starter. And wouldn't look messy in the story on the news page, as it's just punctuation.Seibertron wrote:If everyone posted messages that could be quoted in the news stories
Quoting the original poster would, I agree, be a messy kludge.
If I end up posting any more news, I'll just post a link and add any comments in the replies.Seibertron wrote:How about we compromise?
I think the replacements being marked as suggested above would be beneficial for anyone else posting news, as the first indication they get may otherwise be coming back to find what they wrote has changed, without them knowing why or by who, and with it being presented as having been written by them.
It was unfair to accuse Alex of not putting the post back, as he couldn't. Public apology both here and there, and it's fair enough that he bit my head off by PM...
Have a good break, anyway. Here's hoping that the next couple of years will be as good for the hobby as the last two, that 2006 will be good and that we all get to enjoy it.

i fail to see what the huge deal is about Denyer raising his concerns over something and subsequently discussing it, volume of private messages or not.
An aggressive 'let it drop' stance to criticism will never come across as constructive i'm afraid.
nothing Den has said has been controversail or unfair as far as i can tell, if anything he is trying to help.

If you read our conversation above, you'll see that we came to an agreement about the problem and I will be addressing this concern next week when I return from my mini-Christmas vacation.Best First wrote:i fail to see what the huge deal is about Denyer raising his concerns over something and subsequently discussing it, volume of private messages or not.

The point is that Denyer and I have resolved the issue for the time being.saysadie wrote:And if you'll read the post above, you'll see that that isn't the point.
I agreed with Denyer from the moment I heard he was upset about this problem. I initiated a private message to apologize for his inconvenience, informed him I was aware of the programming problem and that I would address the situation as soon as possible within the next month, which I changed to next week to compromise with him.
I don't understand why you guys won't let the subject drop until I can have time to look at this issue next week when I return from vacation. What do you want me to do so we can end this conversation for the time being?

The news staff have come up with another different way of laying things out, and it's clear. Kudos.
