I'm going to work in an hour

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I'm going to work in an hour

Post by sprunkner » Fri Dec 16, 2005 6:13 am

...and it's 11:22 at night. I'll be working until 9:00 tomorrow morning. I woke up at 7:00 this morning after going to bed at 1:00 last night.

What was I thinking?

I've been working this job for about six months and have finally managed to avoid the night shift for several weeks in a row. No more of that. NoDoz shall be my pal.

The worst part is, no Internet, so I can't even gab with yous. It's even around wakey time in London.

Do you have to do some actual work, or is it a nightwatch where can you bring books, a psp, a mobile phone etc?

I am at work too now, but it's 8:45 in the morning.

Good luck!

I work nights all the time, so I sympathise.
I got in from work a half hour ago...7.30am.

Hope it went okay and you avoided drunks, neds and people who think they are vampires.

Accent, mainly. Although there are some small cultural differences.
A ned is what we call chavs in Scotland.
Same thing, different words. :)

Do you have anything similar over your way?

In Sweden we (at least me and my friends) call them "Spännisar".

In swedish we say "att spänna sig".
In english that's "To flex your muscles".

Spänna = Flex.
Spännis is slang. So in english it'll be Flexers.

A Spännis typically wears expensive clothes, think they are extremly good looking, are stupid, have stupid girlfriends, and are extremly careful about their hair.

Unfortunately, we do. :( People with bad taste and no manners.

Not sure what the name is though, we had a name in the nineties but that is a bit outdated, and I don't know if we have a new one.

I think every country has these people...

Okay, I'm back. I survived. I got into some writing I was doing and read a buttload of comics. It is a night watch thing, so sometimes it's nice to have all that free time. Other times it's impossible to keep myself awake, like last night. F***, I'm tired. The worst part was having to walk the 3 miles home this morning. I have to go back from 6 pm tonight till midnight... I think I will have some ice cream and cry.

That last sentence brought to you by my increasingly strong feminine side. And not feminine in the "I am a woman!" Sojourner Truth style, but feminine as in Lifetime-watching, Anne of Green Gables-quoting, shoe-shopping, stereotype-reinforcing side.
