If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Mmm, the essence being that freedom of speech can't be abrogated, but people should exercise self-restraint.
insulting someone's belief's should be considered a transgression of our right to free speech, in other words, transgressing the reasonable limits of free speech.
Insult is intent rather than choice of words... and, by that criteria, pretty much everything I've ever said about religion is an insult, regardless of how polite I may come across as being.
to you, race, gender, and sexuality are "irrational grounds". To me, I would include religion as well
Religion is a choice. Personal politics are a choice. Therein lies the distinction.
Stu, go to the Freedom of Speech thread, where I am responding to you.

For some odd reason I feel all warm and fuzzy, if they all decide to stay there and chant his name in a zealot of FRENZY.
I guess I can thank the media for my cold point of view, seeing that all i see is bad news... of course that's just me.
Now for something totally unrelated, a politically incorrect joke in a politically correct board.

no..., it's none of my concern if they are bombed because their president want to start a form of war and his people desides to stay where the bombing may occur, why should i care?
I would launch a SOUNDWAVE of JAZZ and "Rock and Roll" over Iran... but I PERCEPTOR a STORMJET of fighters will be the answer.
Probaby a SMOKESCREEN by an unknown force may disorient Iran and probaby give Israel another bombing mission.
A possible SHOCKWAVE of terror may come from the Iranian president and BATTLERAVAGES will probably continue for a long time if he is in power and the world would seem to come to a DEADEND.
Well that's my two sparks of Energon of my opinion.

Again, presuming that comment is serious... wow.
By that logic, if the Iraqis had responded to Dubya by bombing your home, then... well, surely I don't even need to finish that off?

.
Just remember the next time you get punched by someone, its your fault for being in the way of his fist. Oh, and the next time you get into a car accident, its your fault for being on the road to begin with. I mean, walk, will ya! Of course, if you get mugged while walking, don't blame me! Blame yourself! You shouldn't have been walking there.
It's an interesting logic you have, actually. The crimes of a single individual are the fault of those around him or her.

If you want to assassinate him, there are better ways than dropping a bomb on the building you think he is in. Certainly bombing would lack the necessary element of plausible deniability. And I think even Dubya would think twice before blowing up a nuclear power station. The resulting release of radiation would be worse than Chernobyl.

Er, no, I think if bombing a nuclear power station in some way protected his oil interests, he would likely do it.

Look at Pakistan. They had a democratically elected president, Nawaz Sharif, who was overthrown in a military coup by a dictator, Pervez Musharraf.
Guess who Bush backed and now supports? You got it....Musharraf.
Bottom line. There a many, many puppets out there.

If the USA invades, they'll be in a hell of a trouble. Look at Iraq and Afghanistan, they have been there for years now and is the situation any better? Nope. They are losing control by the day...
Also, invading Iran would mean crossing Russia, as it's their territory of influance, plus, after the Iraq fiasco, propably no other country then Britain (thanks to Boot-licker Blair) would stand by their side.
At any rate, there's no need to take the Iran president seriously. Unlike Iraq, Iran didn't launch any wars in the recent years (other then retaliating to Iraq's assaults) and well, this is most likely a way to get the more radical people to stay in support of him, after all, they except such statemants from the president they elected.
