So they executed him, after he had served 24 years on death row, and more amazingly, and think about this.

Was nominated for 4 Nobel Peace prizes for the books he has written.

Writting books doesnt justify killing anyone of course but the man, who had sat on death row for 24 years had clearly changed his ways, helping millions of younger black americans to see that crime doesnt pay. he had become an insperation to many.

Execution doesnt work for me at any time, and thats another story all together, but what does pee me off is when a society that places itself above the 3rd world can kill a man who has now helped millions... well it makes me sick.

The man could have stayed behind bars forever sure, and more importantly helped millions of others too.
In the land of religon, im pretty sure god thinks all involved are dicks now. redemption?

unless you are a revenge hungary idiot, or possibly a relative of one of the murdered (who would always be the last people i would ask about justice) this makes no practical sense.

Honestly, if this man didn't merit a stay of excecution, what chance does anybody else have?

USA: This man committed murder. He killed a human being.

Person A: So, what are you going to do about it?

USA: We're going to kill him.

Person A: I see.

What does the rest of the "free" world think of the death penalty?

In Sweden we don't have the death penalty.

Between 1991 and 1992 nine people were shot (and badly injured) - and one was killed.
They all had one thing in common: dark skin.
The killer was named "The Laserman" ('cause he used laseraim).
He also robbed twenty banks.

The shootings really ****** Sweden up.
Racism shot through the roof. Some idiots started to burn mosque's (is that what they're called? The muslim "church").
Some morons set fire to a refuge camp (people from the middle east had started to pour in to sweden, because of war). Etc.
One political party (with racist opinions) even got enough votes to be part of the Swedish Riksdag.
Things were basically ******.

The Laserman got caught though - and he is still imprisoned.
I am 99.9% sure that he will never get executed. He'll just rot away in prison for the rest of his life.

I am surprised it still exists.

However, if I was raped or one my family was murdered, I think I would like to have the responsible one killed. But then again, you are not really able to think clearly at those moments, so I will hope they never happen.

I don't think killing people in the name of justice is a good strategy.

I wrote the Governor and asked for clemency. I guess he doesn't care about what I have to say. Oh well.

Our nation has not decided what it wants its justice system to accomplish. We don't know whether we want prisons to be punitive or rehabilitative. We don't know whether we want the courts to preserve order or seek out revenge.

The death penalty is just an act of vengeance and serves no constructive purpose.

That's exactly what struck me about this. The inmate concerned has evidence of rehabilitation in the form of writings, teachings and the aforementioned Nobel nominations.
But all that was not good enough to get clemency...
Because he always said he was innocent of the crime he was convicted for, never apologised, never 'sought redemption' for it, he gets killed anyway. Punished for not atoning.
The wording of Arnie's statement just freaks me out. Sorry.

We've actually got one of his books in at work. Or a book about him, at any rate. I flicked at it a couple of months ago, only reason I knew who Mr Williams was. I think I may have to give it a read.

I would like to build a big island.
If someone misbehaves, they get sent to the island.
On this island they will get the opportunity to start their own civilization - with rape and murder and violence and all those other things they love so much.

They will have fresh water, and the possibility to grow stuff (potatoes, bananas, what ever).
But no electricity or stuff like that. They will have to invent that themselves.
And maybe from time to time an airplane will drop some supplies on the island.

This way, the people who want a society free from violence will get separated from the people who like rape and that ****.
And nobody dies! They just go away to this paradise island, Survivor style.

Kind of might aswell throw out the term 'Clemency' really because if he cant get it, no one can.

Rehablitation you say? whats he done,

We tried that, but then they formed their own government and started playing cricket.
