Mac "airport" advice?

My new housemate has one of those funny pretend computers and can't connect to our wireless network...it doesn't show that there's a signal, and though the connection is listed in her list of available networks it won't accept the password and won't let her connect. I stuck my laptop right next to hers and connected automatically. She says she hasn't had any problems connecting to other wireless networks and we've never had any problems connecting other (PC) computers to ours.

Anyone seen this before?

The thing i've learnt with wireless networks is that sometimes, some adaptors just refuse to talk to routers/base stations etc... it's very bloody annoying, but seems to be the case sometimes (it does seem to work against the whole idea of it... but hey!)
that's why people recommend you get all the same kit when setting yourself up with a wireless network... avoids these kind of headaches.

Make sure both router and Mac are using the same wireless protocol (802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11a, 802.11e or 802.11n), check the router's SSID and whether the router is allocating to any MAC that requests one, or just to a given list of MACs.

This should all be done already, as the failure appears to be at the password point, so it's possible that the encryption method is differing at both ends, whether through wrong encryption method or differing bit-lengths.
