London - what's going on?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Smelled of oil smoke all yesterday - there was a big grey cloud hanging over the city, so I stayed indoors to try and avoid it. Otherwise, business as usual.

That's some blast there. :o Apparently actual doors was blown off their hinges in the nearby area because of the shockwave?

Well, 70 schools are closed down, I guess the kids are happy about that atleast.

Yeah, a few days off school will more than make up for the pollution sickness.

Apparantly somebody in Holland heard it.

Which is odd, considering I'm in Cambridgeshire and didn't hear a thing.

I can only assume that the Dutch are psychic. Or heard something completely different.
Grrr. Argh.

I've got an Aunt and Uncle who live in Hemel Hempstead, and it woke them up!
I had a hangover and so was blissfully unaware that there'd even been a sunrise let alone a [composite word including 'f*ck'] off big explosion and a smoke cloud several miles wide...

Why is this topic titled London - what's going on? :???:

Sad news. Still at least nobody was seriously hurt. Besides, if we will keep lots and lots of oil in the same place, then this kind of thing is going to happen sooner or later. All it needs is a spark in the wrong place and *boom*

I guess not. But does this mean that I can start referring to everywhere in Sweden as Stockholm?

Is London billion of miles away from Hemmel Hampstead - or are they close to each other?

So, they are close to each other. Which means that it is perfectly fine to say "London" in stead of Hemmel Hampstead.

I did not hear anything. I think.

It seems that they have done a great job of putting the fires out, looks like it's almost done.

Well, i think most people in Hemel would disagree... as would a lot of people in London for that matter ;)

That's because you live in England :o

Maybe the newspaper should've written "A small suburb is covered in smoke". But who would've give a [composite word including 'f*ck'] about that?
So they write "omg! london covered in sm0ke, pics kthx lol"

;)

Fair play, London was covered in smoke... following an explosion in a small suburb ;)

Hemel Hempstead isn't a suburb, though. It's in Hertfordshire. Surely only parts of Greater London are suburbs.

I would have thought that Hemel Hempstead would be included in the conurbation that consists of London, Greater London and the surrounds.
