Happy Thanksgiving!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

There's a British guy who lives next door to my in-laws. He's celebrating Thanksgiving.

Yes thats exactly it. Next year were going to create "Hooray we killed a bunch of Arabs" day. And then maybe after that well have "[composite word including 'f*ck'] North Korea" Day. FFS.

I thought this place was one thing I had to be thankful for. My mistake. Now back to my ****** up inlaws who only care about themselves and how bad they can hurt my kids and wifes feelings. And she still clings to the notion that they love her and they want her around. Pretty classy when your mother in law tells your 3 year old son on his birthday "Sorry Grandma cant hang around for cake because her boyfriend is "special"and needs her attention more. Koen looked her in the eye and say "Im special too.." I almost punched the bitch.

Oh yeah.. and her husband was out of town working to cover the bills shes wracked up.

so anyway. Hope everyone else has a magical day too.

Actually, it's the British that decimated the Indians, we just gave the royal shaft to the Native Americans. Sorry, semantics and all that.

No, we celebrate killing all the Native Americans on patriotic holidays, for Thanksgiving we celebrate the same Native Americans not killing us when they had the chance.

Ours was last month. I usually go home, spend time with the fam, listen to everyone argue and watch them eat turkey. :p

Reasons behind really don't come into play. I liked the oppertunity to go home, visit, listen to people argue and watch them eat turkey.

I wish all who do it a reasonable Turkey Day.

I don't celebrate this "day".

In fact, I didn't truly know about it's existance up until a few years ago.

Sure, the first time I heard something connected to it, was the Daffy Duck Thanksgiving Special at the age of 10 (could have been 11) but that was swedish translation.

So what? I've only eaten Turkey once tho. It was a delicious piece of land-mass.

Also: at what age do you British lads learn to drink alcohole? The crib? It seems to be an incredibly inate part of ALL of British culture. From Ireland to Scotland, to England. Yer all drunks. :p

We don't all drink. The drinking culture you're thinking of is more a subculture - albeit the dominant one amongst teens and twenties.

TV doesn't necessarily reflect real life. The British pub is as much a place to hang out as a place to drink. Outside of the binge-drinking subculture I was primarily thinking of above, there's less of a culture of drinking in the UK than in, for example, France or Germany.

Why are you so surprised? Here in Sweden people start drinking alkohol at the age of thirteen/fourteen for christs sake.
Can't believe I'm still here.

My and my wife are thankful for Thanksgiving. We started dating on Turkey Day '04.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

No. Most of us can handle the self-poisoning, due to practise and European genetics...

OK, I'll just increase the upper age limit for binge drinking being the dominant subculture I talked about by a few years and we'll be in agreement.
