Yesterday I went to the hospital to visit my sister. She had her appendix taken out the day before because it had broken.
She is sort of okay now, sleeping a lot, though she still cannot eat, and has a tube in her veins with antibiotics and salt-glucose stuff. She has to stay at least until Monday.
I am a bit worried, because I've never had close family in the hospital, and because it happened suddenly without warning. When my mom called me on Wednesday, she was already in surgery. And it's not nice to see your sister there instead of running around and cooking and just being healthy. And there is nothing I can do, except visit her.
I know/hope she'll be fine, but I feel miserable. The last time someone close to me was in the hospital was because she had died.

thanks guys
Yesterday I brought her a lucky bamboo thingy in a vase, a magazine and a big pink pillow to hug, hope that helps her a bit.
I'm going to visit her again this weekend.
I know that she will be okay, and that it's not a life-threathening situation, but rationality seems more elusive when it concerns someone close to you. Being very tired doesn't help either.
But I'm sure she'll be okay soon.

I trust she'll be out in a few days. My cousin had this and so did my ex - her doctor misdiagnosed hers and she nearly died because they didn't take the appendix out in time - but once it's out that's good news. Take care.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I offer my condolences Eline. When a person in your family ends up in hospital it can be very scary.
Luckily, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Like many have said, removing a ruptured appendix is a very common operation. In fact, it's so common that the procedure for it has been perfected and simplified so as that it only takes about 15 minutes to complete.
I'd be very surprised if your sister didn't make a full recovery.
Take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
PS: Have you ever heard of My Neighbour Totoro?
