"36 break up songs..."

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

"...feel the moment."

**** me, the compilation-albums-so-bad-they-feel-the-need-to-advertise-on-ITV are getting worse.

Anyone have any favourites in this 'genre'?

Somehow I doubt Less Than Jake's Great American Sharpshooter is on there...

"Why Do You Love Me?" by Garbage.

The entire "Bleed Like Me" album was pretty good... but not good for what the topic is about...

...or maybe "Playing Your Song" by Hole?

The genre of break up songs? Or the genre of "The Best _____ Album in the World Ever!" albums?

Prayer of St Francis, I think it's called. For "think" read "know."

iTunes is completely and utterly random when it comes to selection of stuff, I find. Things that I'd never expect to find on there are being pimped directly at me... but stuff that I actually want and is relatively mainstream? No chance.

I really need to install Audiogalaxy and WinMX onto my new pc. That way I can resume my quest to comprise an mp3 playlist comprising every song ever used in Buffy ever...

The Frog Princess - Divine Comedy

You Oughta Know - Alanis Morrissette

I`m of the opinion that break-up songs should always be vitriolic.
Logic dictates there is no place for such emotionalism in a Decepticon commander. Nor is there room for incompetence.

Well, at least you didn't name any songs from "Once More With Feeling," Paulie.

Personally, I'm a big fan of "Walk Through The Fire."

Spooky. I'd have gone for those too.

Also
Turn The Lights Out When I Die - Puressence
How I Made My Millions - Radiohead

The former for bitterness. The latter...the piano sounds like tears in musical form.

and possibly Your Ghost - Kristin Hersh. Depending on the circumstances.

Good tunes!

I'm actually of the opinion of listening to sad songs when you are sad is the worst thing you can do. I'm aware its one way to 'let it all out' tho.

True on both counts. Also, I've found my neighbours haven't appreciated me doing so at odd hours of the day and night recently. Whodathunkit?

Good question-sometimes I am, but more often than not I'm so-so, although on occasion I've been known to be so-what.

Apologies for lameness of banter, but from what I've read at the Archive, I'm probably on a par with your good self for lack of sleep and excessive booze consumption over the past who-knows-how-long. Unless I'm that done in thatI imagined reading that. I'm afraid to check now. :(

Y'know what's weird... I've been listening to this heart-wrenching, tearjerker of a musical called "The Last Five Years." It has two actors, a husband and a wife, and we see their five-year marriage from the wife's viewpoint of divorce to wedding, and the husband's viewpoint of wedding to divorce. There's this one song, called "Nobody Needs To Know," where the husband is singing a kind of half-hearted ballad, and you realize that he is singing it to the woman he cheated on his wife with...

I might as well just post the dang thing... apologies if this thread starts to look like "Lyrix fried."

Hey, kid - good morning
You look like an angel
I don't remember when we fell asleep
We should get up, kid
Cathy is waiting...
Look at us, lying here
Dreaming, pretending
I made a promise and I took a vow
I wrote a story
And we changed the ending
Cathy, just look at me now!
Hold on, facts are facts
Just relax, lay low
All right, the panic recedes:
Nobody needs to know
Put on my armor
I'm off to Ohio
Back into battle till
I don't know when
Swearing to her that I was
Never with you
And praying I'll hold you again
Hold on, clip these wings -
Things get out of hand
All right, it's over, it's done
No one will understand
No one will understand...
We build a treehouse
I keep it from shaking
Little more glue every time that it breaks
Perfectly balanced
And then I start making
Conscious, deliberate mistakes
All that I ask for
Is one little corner
One private room
At the back of my heart
Tell her I found one
She sends out battalions
To claim it and blow it apart
I grip and she grips
And faster we're sliding
Sliding and spilling
And what can I do?
Come back to bed, kid
Take me inside you
I promise I won't lie to you
Hold on, don't cry yet
I won't let you go
All right - the panic recedes
All right - everyone bleeds
All right - I get what I need
And nobody needs to know
Nobody needs to know
And since I have to be in love with someone
Since I need to be in love with someone
Maybe I could be in love with someone
Like you...
