I want to make my own chess pieces.
For example; I want Henrik Larsson to be the bishop, Jack Black is gonna be the Rook, etc.
I just dont have any clever ideas on how to do it.
I could just print a picture of Jack Black, and add black frame around him (and a Rook-symbol) - but that's boring.
I wanna do something cool. I dont care if the pieces dont look a like - as long as you can see the piece symbol, and the face of the guy/girl, I'm happy.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Can't believe I'm still here.

This sounds pretty freaking close to what we have in Chinese chess. Only it's words and not pics.Eline wrote:You could make some cool pieces out of wood and make sure that the top is flat. Then paint/draw/glue the portrait on top.
This will be a lot of work though... unless you buy pieces and customize them.

That's a good idea, as most sets have pieces that are roughly generic aside from distinguishing heads.Eline wrote:You could make some cool pieces out of wood and make sure that the top is flat. Then paint/draw/glue the portrait on top.

The Knight, however is often the exception, where its head contains most of the piece's mass. But that's not always the case, and I'm sure some nifty customising can get around that problem anyway.
Good luck, Ob!
Btw, when I saw the topic, I thought this was going to be something along thel ines of making a computer-based chess game. That's a whole other nightmare!

Well, my father is very handy with wood ( ), so I could ask him for help.Eline wrote:You could make some cool pieces out of wood and make sure that the top is flat. Then paint/draw/glue the portrait on top.

But right now I think I'll go with the clay (it's the cheapest way).
Thanks everybody - you've been of great help
