I've read Preacher now. All of it.
Pretty great innit?
Did I hear somewhere that a lot of people weren't happy with the ending?

Preacher is awesome
Although I felt the Salvation arc was treading water a little, I still luv the whole thing. The beats of the story are excellently measured out, little ones and the larger themes and moments.
And there's so many cool things in that book...jayis, it has Bill Hicks in it! I mind when I read that issue I let out a whoop when Jesse first mentioned his name. I had been trying to get people I knew at Uni to remember Hicks for ages, and no other bugger had heard of him, and I hadn't seen/heard any of his material for years (it was bloody difficult getting hold of his tapes and videos around the end of the 90s there, up here anyway. Not like now) So you could probably imagine I was ******* delighted with that issue.
The end.
I liked it.
There was unhappiness with the last issue in particular? Or with the material in the last story?
Heh. "Hell, girl, can't you guess?"

spoilers...
Personally, I thought everything fell into place at the climax wonderfully. I wasn't sure about the direction the Cassidy character was being taken in, until his redemption which was great. Maybe Hoover and Featherstone deserved to do a bit more before they died?
Preacher was such a page turner. It also made me laugh... a lot.
I liked the Salvation arc and enjoyed the gruesomeness of it. Perhaps it didn't advance the plot much, but at least Jesse was reunited with his mum, which I suppose lifted his character somewhat.
Herr Starr is just bloody hilarious.

Preacher is right up there with Sandman in the category of "comics you give to people to keep them from ever giving you crap about reading comics."
The Saint of Killers mini-series was ace as well. As was the Arseface one-shot.

I hope you can pick it up at some point, Saydie. It's hella good fun. Library, maybe?
Anyways, dragging this back up as I just found a concept pic apparently from the pitch Ennis and Dillon made for the series.

Oh yeah. But I get the feeling that a movie put together with that cast package - all 3, not just Depp - would have been one of those things that sounds really good but would actually suck.
edit: think it would be easy for the producers to let it slip into cliched melodrama/buddy movie territory. Also suspect Tulip's role would suffer enormously.
Would still like to have seen them try, of course.

I loved the comic but I agree that the ending was poor. It was the writer having a wankfest (Like so many do) over his own characters and undermined everything else in the series. It reminds me of Grant Morrisons end to his X-men run who also ended with a bit of a crap wankfest.
Still arseface was great.

Will be looking for a scan set at some point, feeding my non-completist (and in some eyes irritating) habit of reading series and then getting shelf copies of the bits I'm actually going to re-read...
Oldboy? If it's the one I'm thinking of, my reaction was "so just don't have kids". Worth a watch though.
