Ok i did Karate as a kid till i was about 16 and left because i was being a lil tyke.
So now im thinking of going back to some Martial Art or another,
SO far Im thinking.
Muay Thai - a type of kick boxing
Kung-Fu - im sure you know what this is
Jitsu - bit like judo
Im wondering if anyone here does any of these?
Im thinking I might go Muay Thai, im 6ft 4, 15 stone/ 95Kg / 210lbs and think it might favour this art more so then the others?

Re: New martial Art
I have a buddy that now teaches Southern Shaolin Kung Fu, as well as a bit of kickboxing. Wish I could remember the Grandmaster's name. Little Vietamese old dude that can [composite word including 'f*ck'] anything anyhow. Real Shaolin Grandmaster too. One of those dudes that walks into a Vietnam bar and people start stepping on eggshells around him.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Kung-Fu - im sure you know what this is
Me personally? I stayed on the couch.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

I do kungu, or as wel call it, wushu (meaning martial arts in chinese).
We don't really fight against each other, but do something like the kata in karate.
It's a combination of strength, flexibility, balance etc. So you learn everything! Plus we have supersupercool moves!
You can see it in the movies "crouching tiger hidden dragon" and "hero"
These sites have videos so you can see what it is:
http://www.taolu.de/
http://www.wushucentral.com/videos/ (though a bit show-offy)
EDIT- there a thousands different styles in wushu, so there is always something you would like. Sanda / sanshou is more of a contact sport. I do things like changquan, jianshu (with sword) and mulan which is more like dancing, with fans. The styles I do will be a demo sport at the 2008 olympics :) so I hope some friends of mine can be in there.

I think it's the one developed by the Israeli security forces. It's basically an introduction to killing people with your bare hands I don't think Impy needs to learn that.Eline wrote:I think it's Israeli martial arts, don't know much about it, but it sounded very dangerous.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Its a bit like combat karate taught to soilders in the army, all the moves are based upon, well, breaking limbs and killing, which is what the army do.Metal Vendetta wrote:I think it's the one developed by the Israeli security forces. I'm a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I find it's an excellent way to relieve stress and stay in shape (though I do a bit of running and an excess of cycling in addition). The best part has got to be the sparring though. I can think of no better feeling that reducing your opponent to a fallen pile at your feet. I must admit though, if you're looking for a flashy show-off type martial art, you're better off with just about any other one. Except maybe Tae Bo...

well Thai Boxing interested me as its direct and effective as a defensive street art, and obviously suits my build.
Damm I still cant think what the name of that art they use in the new batman film is, thats all about ever move takes u forward and is very aggresive, all elbows and stuff. - very Batman...

Do all of them and mix them up for the best result. I found that Kung Fu suited me much more than Jujitsu. The circular movements were much more natural than the straight-line Japanese stuff. Personal preference.
The truth is that the quality of the class is more important than the style itself. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in the group that you are with and it serves your purpose.
