Death's Head III

Looks like Marvel want to do a new version of the freelance peace-keeper.
The front page of www.marvel.com has a poll asking fans to vote on which character gets a modern revamp, to appear in Amazing Fantasy...the choice is appalling and so Death's Head is winning handily. Looks like someone in editorial might be a DH fan.
*daydreams* New Death's Head. Well, Hitch'll be needing a new Marvel book once Ultimates 2 finishes up...

You're thinking about the Death's Head cubed series.
There was the indestructible Death Metal who wanted to be destroyed, and the gas guzzlin' Death Wreck. I vaguely remember a third one, but that may have been the second Minion with the upturned horns that Dr. Necker (or whatever her name was) called 'The New Death's Head'.
It's been a while since I looked back through my DH comics though, so there may be more. I'll have to check.
A new DH comic sounds good to me.

I'd take the original Death's Head - er - head - and stick it on a new body. I always liked the original DH's noggin - especially the dent in his forehead that indicated he may have nearly bit the big one at one time.Stormwolf wrote:I think that they should redesign Death's Head I a little bit.
That said, the green 'armour' always looked like some kind of puffer jacket to me, so perhaps not a return to that, eh? The redesign before he got killed by Minion also looked like he was wearing a miniskirt, so I'd like that to be avoided as well.
He should still have his removable hand to plug weapons into though, not that T2 liquid metal thing he had later.
... You do realise that his original statement was a shameless deployment of irony, right?Autobloke wrote:Best First wrote:I hope they don't use the crappy original version and instead go with the way better Death's Head II.You can't have it both ways y'know.Best First wrote:all the post original DH stuff pretty much sucked IMO.

I liked DH2, the design was cool, and the "origin"-story with art by Liam Sharp, rocked.
That's the artist I want to see on it if does get a re-vamp.
I don't see why they can't use that design, perhaps tweaked a bit, imho, on the head, since most of you are so fond of the tusks.
And please... the green jacket original version?! Not even the significantly improved v2 with black and yellow?? HAH!
Let me tell you a little story...
--------
I and my sis(! The art of Sharp appealed so much, she became something of a fan of DH2 herself) used to read the issues of DH2 that was published in sweden so much, that really, now it's just one big jumbled mess of worn pages. ( I still of course keep it tho)
It really is an enjoyable quick-fix comic.
One of my class-mates that I had noticed was a comic-fan in training, (this was only 3 years ago) I recommended DH2, to ease him in, and I borrowed my beloved 132 pg giant to him. Aaaand.. instantly hooked. Mission accomplished. But the story does of course not end there...
Some months later I was sitting at a comp at school and
( make no misstake.. these comps that we had rigged at
the electrics/electronics section of my high School that I studied at, electronics of course, was NOT for 'home-work' hehe)
recently having discovered TransFans, I was reading first the US, then the UK comics like crazy. At this perticular occassion I were reading the Fire on High-arc pt2, when he walked by and asked:
Him:"Whut yo readin'?"
Me: "Transformers, some british comics."
{Looks at cover}
Him: "Hah! What an ugly bast! Who's that??"
Me: Err..weelll..it's Death's Head. In his original form.."
Him:" What?! AHAHAHA! Man, did he look ugly or what!?"
And then he walked away to class whilst laughing his socks off.
This is not a lie, this is what happened, the words and phrasing are not exact, since I can't remember that accurately, and because of the translation from swedish to english.

What are the chances that they could get Furman back to do a bit of scribing for them? He's not burned any Marvel bridges has he? 50% of the vote - its in the bag!!!
I'm pretty sure that the Death 3 title refered to DHII, plus Death Metal and Death Wreck. I don't remember a 'second Minion' - but I've not looked at those comics for a long time either........There was also Die-Cut, one of the Minion personallities that got his body back, but I don't think he was in Death 3.Autobloke wrote:You're thinking about the Death's Head cubed series.

And I've heard of Deaths Head II, Volume 2 (the ongoing series rather than the original 4 part comic) being refered to a DH3 before. Apparently, to avoid confusion!!

I just checked and you're right about that line-up.Scraplet wrote:I'm pretty sure that the Death 3 title refered to DHII, plus Death Metal and Death Wreck.

And there was also this other second DH, who I think was the product of an alternate dimension:

The top 'The Next Death's Head' is a cyborg that Necker created in the 90's with the help of AIM and, a mutant known as Kite. Basically, the only thing she could think of that she could protect her from DH was to build a new one.
She un-knowingly recreated the mystic/hyper-technic menace of Charnel in doing so.
The second one is indeed a copy of DH2, that was created by the partially sentient, syntethic, damned-earth pocket-dimension. (or whaterver it was called) That was in itself a creation of the Mys-tech board (lamest villains ever...) from the Warheads-comic.

This could wind up very badly for Deaths Head/Transformers fans. Amazing Fantasy takes established character NAMES and attaches them to completely new characters (mostly teens, iirc). Scorpion, for example became a teenage ninja woman. So Death's Head could wind up being a goth kid from the New York projects who finds a magic scythe and uses it to fight crime as the heroic yet brooding Death's Head.
In fact, I can't imagine it being anything else.

Very true. The comic industry in general, and Marvel in particular, has a baffling preoccupation with superhero comics. Although I applaud the recent efforts by both Marvel and DC to make comics more realistic and more compelling, the fact remains that comics without spandex have the odds stacked against them.Professor Smooth wrote: In fact, I can't imagine it being anything else.
As much as I hate to be negative about these things, I think there's a lot of truth there.

Urg, I remember that...I've got an issue where those two fight each other inside some VR program or something. It's pants.Autobloke wrote:And there was also this other second DH, who I think was the product of an alternate dimension:

I was not a fan of the whole Minion/Charnal carry on either.
What Smooth says is true, these revamps take the name, general appearance and rough character concept and reimagine them; it's not even as faithful as Ultimization. It's highly likely, almost guaranteed, that the new Death's Head won't have any relation to the original beyond name and general appearance. Could easily not even be a bounty hu-...um, a Reno Raines type person. Possible he/she/it won't even be a robotic life-form, although I'd hope they wouldn't go that far...seems a bit pointless.
I'm just interested that the concept is back in some official form, personally.
I'll moan about it if it's crap once I've read the issue.
Also, whilst the new Scorpion doesn't really have much in common with the old one, she's not really a crap character, IMHO.
I was always fond of the What If version of DH myself.

Well, in the pages of Amazing Fantasy, as a back-up strip, there'll be coming a small exception of the re-imagination thing, Captain Universe. That lil' strip will be making a small cross-over into Daredevil(!)...
Also, issue 15, wich I think we all know is legendary in volume 1, will be containing a whole slew of new characters, wich doesn't really have that much to do with super-heroics. After that, there'll be some modern day marvel-western wich looks cooler than one would think.

That's one of the issues I've plucked out of my collection to be re-read first as soon as possible.KingMob wrote:I was always fond of the What If version of DH myself.

YES. Foo. (just breakin' a leg mate =) )
Here's some more info, on the Ultimate Avengers.

Sounds immensely good. Like if they're aiming to do more of these, based on original comic-stories, and not just the Ultimates. I see possibilities...
We need to see this footage! How come it hasn't been properly leaked yet??
I've meant to post a thread about this for some time, I have no idea why I haven't done it yet. Ah, yes. I'm a lazy bast.

and if not are there scans online?
the whatif loks fooking ace.
The notion that the generic bag of crap that is DH2 is somehow a better design that DH1 is hilarious by the way.
If they are going to restart DH then there isn't a better place that the 'What if' incarnation. He's a little more bad-ass after nearly meeting with his end; he's just caused the death of most of marvel's most annoying superheros, and so inhabits a superhero-free version of the near future. Just leave him in that situation, doing what he does, but on earth in the (pretty much) here and now. When was it set 2020? that virtually tommorrow! You can't tell me that won't have appeal beyond us old buggers....they'll reel 'em in!
And the best part is that 'What if' DH is DH 'cos he was written by Furman and drawn by Senior - the way it should be!!

I'm afraid I expect it to be utter pants.
Most every body I've spoken to who knows of DH for some reason considers DHII to be more entertaining (probably to do with the age thing, most people I know were teenagers then so DHII with the random smashing and generic superheroness would probably appeal more than well-written stories and characterisation).
Hence DHII will feature to some degree in what is 'reimagined'.
I mean, DH being redone might stand a chance but when you run from the outset with DHII you know you're in trouble. Furman must be turning in his grave...
...which I've just dug... >.>
