I really resent it when people who do not know or understand the evidence tell me that my acceptance of science is a 'faith' position'!!
No it isn't. I had an education. I've weighed-up the evidence and rationally concluded that it is overwlemingly in favoure of evolution and without any credible arguments for genisis-style creationism.
Then they roll-out the old "ahhhh! But eyes!! they can't evolve can they? you can't have half an eye!!" argument. Like its the most baffling proposition ever and they've got you on the hop!
HOW MANY MORE TIMES DOES THE EVIDENCE HAVE TO BE PRESENTED!
Tell you what. I'll read the bible if all these morons will read a few Richard Dawkins books.........and then try the 'eye' argument......

Strange how no-one had heard of dinosaurs until people discovered them. You'd think Him upstairs would drop his chosen people a few hints, like "Before I created your species (or even at the same time I created your species if that's what floats your boat) I created several hundred species of enormous lizard, all of which have now died out. Write that in the Bible will you, otherwise it'll cause loads of arguments later."
I'm probably paraphrasing Eddie Izzard here, but that's just an indication of how ridiculous the whole thing is, though it's interesting to note that George Washington (for example) did not believe that a benevolent creator would allow a species to go extinct, and that part of the Lewis and Clark expedition's mandate was to prove that mammoths still existed.
...and if dinosaurs (or baby ones at least) were allowed on Noah's Ark, how come they didn't survive to the present day? Where are they all, besides the ones we find compressed beneath thousands of tonnes of rock?

That's the thing though, they say mentions of "leviathans" and "behemoths" in the Old Testament are testimony of "dinosaurs", the label attributed in modern day. Really, if you ever have time take a look through the questions and answers section, it's.... ...*starts flipping through a dictionary for the next thousand years trying to find the right word*. As for why the dino-babies (which is what they go with constantly) didn't survive to present day, they say after the global flood involving Noah ended the entire climate of the world had changed and most died out.... .......then they go on to say a few times that old legends from Medieval times of dragons could be attributed to some handfuls of present day dinosaurs as well. Makes you wonder why there's no T-Rex skulls mounted on some old castle walls eh?
And yes they use the eye argument all the time. They do that for everything, every function, every body part, all the time.
According to them I'm a Compromised Christian, here I'm a delusional man. I'm going to stick with what I think I am; Underpaid, tired, and for some reason incredibly horny.
I love Eddie Izzard.

Dude, they pick on Dawkins all the time as well. Check this out. Down about mid page there's a video. One of AiG's "things" is that while natural selection is present, the processes of what they call "goo to you-evolution" that increases genetic information are not present in evidence. The video is something they consider a triumph.Scraplet wrote:Tell you what. Heh, interesting. There's a great bit in the book Devil's Chaplain where Dawkins gives his side of that story. Basically, he lets these people into his house, they film him for a few days, they do a few interviews and stuff. Then they hit him with that question and he realises they are creationists trying to set him up, and the long pause they attibute to him not being able to find an answer to it was actually him deciding whether to throw them out of his house or not, IIRC. He said only someone who was looking to discredit is work would ask that question in that particular way...I don't have the book to hand but I can look it up. The whole thing is all in the editing anyway.
As far as I can tell, all that page has to say is "yes, well we can accept that bacteria and virii might evolve but to evolve from a microbe to a human being is impossible for some reason". I don't get it - why can some things evolve but not others?

There's a nice letter about the eye thing in today's Independent, where they point out that compared to a mollusc's eye, the human or mamallian eye is actually inside out, which means that we have a blind spot while snails don't. This supports evolutionary theory because if our ancestor were to go back and redevelop a "proper" eye, it would lose sight for a few generations, whereas evolution pushed it to improve upon the flawed design. A creator would have got things the right way round the first time, surely.

Although I do believe in a higher power...I'm pretty sure that if dino's lived when they were writing the bible, that someone would have mentioned them a bit more...:Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:if there were dinosaurs in the bible etc... and hopefully we can agree they were here for millions and millions of years.
what was the point in them, I mean they didnt worship god, so was god feeling lonely and made some humans to worship him. I find that very strange.
ergo, God has an ego.
"Shephards Log, Date 1500bc...
Went out to milk the goats and take the sheep down to Bethlehem, but that Goddamn T-Rex ate them again!! Thankd God!!!"

so how are dinos explained then, or are they just conviently ignored.
All religons, across the world, are to old to have had the science to understand when, what and where dinos came from. and so they all leave them out.
All gods seem to require worship, if gods have an ego I therefore cannot belive. and hence there is no god/s

Ignored, I guess.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:so how are dinos explained then, or are they just conviently ignored.
But, when the Bible was being written, man had no idea what fossils were, so they couldn't write about them.
And even if they had found some, they probably didnt have the science to explain what they were.
If the Bible was written today, it would not be the same as the one we were given...

I'm building a time machine. I hand you a cell phone, an artificial heart, a walkman and send you back to about 1500bc and have you explain them to the residents, and tell them they have to write about it in thier fabulous new book thier writing...
Now, with thier skills, and understanding of the world around them...
How do you think they'll explain all that stuff?
In neat scientific terms, or....how?

At the risk of going off subject, I'd just like to make an impassioned plea to sprunkner to stop using meth, because it's severely interfering with his ability to taste food. Thank you. *waits for Covenant backup to arrive with guns blazin'*

Ok so he left out stuff humans might not understand, but before i move on, so he left out lizards? whats hard to understand about that? not much, it just doesnt work.
anyhows.
Am i supposed to blive od first of all populated the earth, for 600 million years with a dinosaur race, that clearly 'EVOLVED' then when they all died he thought [composite word including 'f*ck'] this, ill make some humans to WORSHIP me.
its that bit that doest work for me, you see god/s only exist because we can worship them, its tree falling in the wooods, does it make a sound? does it exist if humans arnt about to WORSHIP them.
U see I cant get that, he makes a race of dinos, which would actually still be here were it not for a metor strike, that does nothing but exist, no worship etc. then one day, Humans!
Humans are cool because we can be manipulated to WORSHIp.
and im sorry, I cant belive somthing that can create the know universe, that does totaly [composite word including 'f*ck'] all for anyone in the whole world ever, and lets be clear god does nothing, ever, except supposedly make us unto worship, is here for us?
when?
he has never done anything for us, he has made man
A. write the bible, = man talking ****
B. done nothing for us = lets millions die
C. exists only to be worship = we all have to pray or go to hell!!
Look at that, think, digest, work it out, im not being funny here, if u belive in a god, stop look and listen actually think, just once trully think about this!
he does nothing at all in the world, except asks to be bum licked, thats no god, thats a tight ass deal!!!
god doesnt exist for that. gods cant have egos, and if they do, is that the type of being u want/should follow?
science will continue to prove how our universe works, ppl will continue to try and adapt the findings of the bible. and why? because for me the bible and gods eist for ppl who dont want to be scared of reality

Well, not all of us. You're one example. We can only do this if we choose to. If you don't want to, then don't. :-) And I'm also tired of the nutters who will shove it all in your face myself.
