Saying that, the greatest sc-fi ever, star wars, (argue that if u will) works for so many ppl, unlike star trek, because it doesnt ever talk of its own technolagy...

I put down "aliens" because Asimov's The Gods Themselves was the book that most impressed me with a sci-fi concept: those freaking cool aliens.

I hate Star Wars, too.

Though, in its defence, I didn't spend five years at school being subjected to the endless prattle of two pricks who thought I actually gave a toss about Star Wars, no matter how many times I told them I didn't. Which is what happened with Trek, and is probably the root of my contempt for the series.

That and the fact that there are people who speak Klingon fluently but would look at you blankly if you asked "ca va?" (No, I can't be arsed to find the c with the little flicky thing beneath)

Buffy fans are scary at times, yes. But at least they don't use their own ficticious language in a transparant attempt to make themselves feel special.

I've nothing against it, I've got pretty low with reality at times so if people want to feel special by disappearing into a fantasy world I wish them luck If it makes you happy run with it n_n

I have enormous contempt for the entire Trek brand as a whole. Primarily as a result of the fans, with secondary reasons being that (despite multiple attempts) I've never managed to make it through an entire episode of any series.

Just an opening sequence is enough to send me scrambling for something - anything - else to watch. It doesn't help that there seemed to be about a dozen different versions of it on at the same time for a while... plus the apparantly endless stream of films... it's one of those things that just wouldn't go away and leave me in peace. A bit like reality TV is nowadays... just as one finishes another two spring up... at least fire worked on the Hydra...

Yeah, it's borderline phobic and probably deeply irrational, but I just can't abide the thing.

I have mellowed to it a bit over the past few years... Trekkie-baiting is one of my more enjoyable netsports... but gads, if I had my way I'd nail 90% of them to a tree by their unused genitalia.
