James "Scotty" Doohan passes away...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Coincidentally a few days ago I was reading part of his bio. A teacher once told him that because of his voice he should have studied for the Opera. But later he heard a radio novel and thought to himself "I can do it better!" so he started working as a "voice" and starred in 3500 radio drama shows.

He served in the army and in the D day was shot like 6 times. He was a very talented guy who could adapt his voice to many different accents (whom he furtherly exercised in his army days because of the interaction with different soldiers, and who later used to make different characters in the later ST animated series).

In the beggining of ST he was only hired for 6 episodes but at the end he stayed for the whole show.

Yep he will be missed. I adored the way in he was kind of the guy who could repair the Enterprise no matter what the situation was.

Rest in peace Scotty

And lost part of a finger. You'll only see it in one episode:

"The Trouble with Tribbles"

He had a child only a few years back. It's a shame but he had a good innings.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I'll miss the drinking engineer that was Scotty, and likewise with the man who played him well every time, Doohan.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

A man that led a rich, long and exciting life has passed away. He will be remembered for generations to come.

Rest in peace Mr. Doohan.

I remembered seeing that ep in Next Generation that he was in a few years back, and he seemed rather healthy then, and clear. Things can happen so quickly.

About the getting shot thing at D-day, according to that site, it was 6 bullets, but with a machine-gun!

Amazing.

Equally kinda amazing is that he fathered a child at 80, and if I count this correct, 4, 2, 3, from the different marriages, he had 9 children! :)

It's both sad and joyous when a man will be missed by so many close-ones. :(

That ep was over a decade ago.
Although my father became ill, got worse, then died within eight months - so things can go wrong so quickly. :(

Before/during Star Trek:

The Twilight Zone (Valley of The Shadows, 1963)
The Outer Limits (Expanding Human, 1964)
Man form UNCLE (The Bridge of Lion Affairs, 1966).

And as I wrote above, 3500 radio drama shows, more or less.

It's funny to realize that they can't make any more original cast Star Trek stuff because they are now dying.

Doohan was good.
