Personally while I did very much enjoy it, I have a slight uneasy feeling about it, like there was something missing - i've got a few ideas about what they may be, but overall it was excellent and very dark. Bought it about half past 2 in the morning - finished it at 7 in the morning on Saturday so its not that big a read.

Ooh, spoiler! I'm picking my copy up tomorrow, but the last one was quite a disappointment to me (sparse actual story, annoying whiney Potter, needlessly long) so I don't know what to expect.Skylynx wrote:Don't really finished reading it, but i'm at the half of it. Until Now I think its pretty good but if i'm correct and the one dies that i think is gonna die I think i'm gonna like it a lot less
Buggered if I was going to line up to collect mine at god-knows-what time. Reserved, mate.

Yep, Potter will probably join the huge pile of books, magazines, DVDs, recorded TV shows, writing and drawing, and a million other things I've got on my 'to-do' list. I'll let you know my opinion on the new book in probably about four years.Best First wrote:gotta finish Agent of Evolution first...

Y'know, I don't know why I did reserve it now you come to mention it. I don't ever reserve anything.Best First wrote:dunno why people reservce it either
Actually, I think it was so that people wouldn't buy it for my birthday recently (birthdays ) - that would've ruined any enjoyment of the book I may have had. That way I could say 'Don't buy me that - I've already got it reserved'.

I liked it. The plot was excellent but again the first half (After the first 2 chapters) had little to do with it except "what is malfoy is doing). I suspose half of Harry Potter is the whole school environment.
The "Half blood prince" was resolved nicely and cleaverly. It was a great read, I got it Saturday afternoon and finished it a hour ago. The writing was good but there was much less humour (But some of the one-liners were great especially concerning Ron and Ginny) but i actually had a tear rolling down my face as one of the major characters got bumped off by another major character and this ending really has me excited for the next one because we have the status que radically altered.
But I'd say it doesn't quite match the best 2 books in the series which are Askaban ond Globet. Order had a weak start but did have a stuningly good last 3rd but "Half blood prince" is solid through out and is by far the most sinister through out.

Book 7 will have an enourmous amount of stuff to be fitted in - so it may be a bit rushed. In someways this was disapointing because there was a big thing made about uniting the school etc and loads of characters from harrys year were introduced in the the last book who were never heard from again in this one, even Neville and Luna barely appear and within about 30 pages of Harry being at school its christmas - its like most of the year is too rushed. Still really enjoyed it - got a theory for you R.A.B = Regulus Black? and Snape is still good?

Spoilers as usual:
I thought it was awesome. The whole "is-Snape-really-bad-after-all-this-time" was handled so well, with the question set up in the beginning. I think I would have been more disbelieving if Snape had just turned out to be evil in the end, but with the second chapter's hook, I was really wondering. I think with Snape in this book, Rowling created another real masterpiece of literature. She has been unflinching about making so many of her characters, even the good and evil ones, multifaceted.
The ending was so very sad. I wonder, though, if Harry is really going to stay away from Hogwarts. For one thing, I can't imagine the books working without the school environment, since, in my experience, most things that happen outside the school year have been boring. Like that whole Quidditch tournament in Goblet of Fire.
I liked the fact that Harry was less angry, as well. And the ending, with Harry's realiztion that all his protectors have died proitecting him, was a wonderful way to finally grow him up all the way. It really pays off his anger and restlessness. He has always been the one who will kill Voldemort, so it's nice to see that no one is protecting him anymore.
The only thing that really bugged me was how the romance was handled. It didn't bug me that there was romance between Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione; that was long, long overdue. But Rowling doesn't seem to like writing dialogue for mushy scenes, almost as if she's afraid to offend her younger readers. I didn't really get what made Harry and Ginny's relationship work so well when we never got to see them actually talk. Maybe Rowling didn't want to sink too much effort into a relationship she was going to break off for the same old "noble-I-don't-want-you-killed" that has been in every damn fantasy bookk ever published. (the worst part is, it's in mine, too, so I shouldn't even complain.)
All in all though, I enjoyed it far more than Order, which dragged a bit, and made Harry also a bit unlikable by his constant anger. I am really hoping it doesn't take her two years to produce the seventh. I'm also excited to see what she comes up with after Harry Potter.

Spoilers
I have a theory about the snape being trusted by Dumbledore and thats because he made an unbreakable oath - I can't believe he's really bad for example if he was then he would have killed flitwick or not stopped that death eater killing harry. Harry is going to have to get a lot stronger over the summer though if he is going to combat Voldemort as he didn't seem to progress much this year

*avoiding spoilers* (thanks for the warning)
Just had a bit of a read of the first chapter. Can you say 'recap'? Also, a hated Prime Minister and an annoying President? You couldn't make this stuff up.
I miss the earlier books that always started at the Dursley's. (Yes, I know the last one didn't either).

I susposed Rowling exhausted the different ways the Dursley's can be cruel to Harry or introduce the story from Privot Drive.Autobloke wrote: I miss the earlier books that always started at the Dursley's. (Yes, I know the last one didn't either).
I suspose technically the 1st book didn't actually start with the Dursley's.

Wednesday: Scott Mills calls the whole thing rubbish on Radio; gets loads of criticism via text and email
Today: Discusses it further with his co-host. Says "I'll read you a passage from the new one, see if you're grabbed by it at all."
Proceeds to read a passage culminating with the revelation of who dies. Live on air.
I'm torn between being annoyed and thinking it's quite funny.
Presuming what he's read is actually from the book and didn't make it up to annoy people.
