SPANAWAY, Wash. -- A 12-year-old boy who was firing bottle rockets at cars was chased into traffic Friday by an angry driver and killed by another car, authorities said.

The driver and his passenger, both 22, were arrested for investigation of manslaughter, the Washington State Patrol said.

The death came soon after midnight in this small town south of Tacoma, where the preteen and a 12-year-old cousin had been hiding in bushes while shooting the bottle rockets, trooper Johnny R. Alexander said.

A car stopped, and passenger Tyrone Sherrod got out, chased the cousin and started beating him, Alexander said. The driver, Mario N. Haley, chased the other boy, who ran onto the highway and was struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old girl.

Both men fled, but police found them at homes. Investigators determined the girl was not at fault.

Witnesses unsuccessfully tried to revive the boy struck by the car. His cousin was treated for injuries and released to his parents.

In a perfect world, the case would go like this:

They find the two 22-year olds innocent of all charges.

The parents of the dead kid have to pay a fine for the violent acts of vandalism that lead to the kids death.

Somehow..for some reason..I don't feel as if the parents should have to pay any fines...

The lads in the car handled it wrong. I'm not sure if any sort of behaviour could have stopped the boy from running into traffic, but certainly not the one they displayed.

And driving away from the scene?

WTF?

In a perfect world the rocket-firing kid wouldn't be rocket-firing in the first place.
Maybe the 22 year-olds shouldn't have chased the kid onto the road, but the kid would've probably just laughed and stuck up two fingers and carried on doing stupid sh*t if the other two had just beeped their horn at him or something similar and left him to it.
Shouldn't have left the scene though - it doesn't help their image in all of this.
And the parents should have raised the kid better.

While the little snots probably deserved a whupping, that's something that should be up to their parents. They could have done better by just apprehending the kids and holding them while they called the cops. There's no reason a grown man shouldn't be able to subdue a 12-year old without violence.

The kid shouldn't have run into the road, but I guess if a pair of adults are attacking you there aren't many options.

Ended badly.

You have to wonder though... if this hadn't happened the kids would have probably carried on being twats. An accident could have occurred, leading to the death of more people. Or not.

Bottle rockets shot at passing cars, dumb and bad.

Two guys stop and try to teach the perps a hard knock lesson, ill-thought but understandable.

Being moron enough to shoot cars with bottle rockets then when chased for being stupid making the decision to run into highway traffic, noticing and pattern.

I don't feel the parents should have to pay for their son commiting such an offense. The boy is dead. By whatever way he came to the decision to do something as stupid as fire bottle rockets at vehicles, the parents have lost their son. I'd say that's enough. Maybe they didn't raise him good enough, maybe they thought he was a good kid and he'd just managed to pull that age old wool over their eyes, maybe they didn't give a **** about him at all and some paycheck just got freed up, who the hell knows right?

Personally speaking, had me and a buddy subject to this idiotic prank decided to stop the car, I'd have dragged the two shites kicking and screaming either to the authorities or their parents. The two dudes responsible are asses as well for beating younger (and likely smaller) people then fleeing the ******* scene when the **** really hits the fan. [/My two cents]

Thats also where the trouble starts. My mate once saw a bunch of kids hurl a brick through his brother's car window (it was parked outside the house). He ran out the house and managed to grab one of them: he got the kid to tell his name and address and then he later called the police. The parents brought up the fact that their kid was handled roughly so he decided to drop the whole thing. Well, it didn't help that the car had no insurance either and was still parked on the road I suppose.

I have no sympathy for the kid who got his ass kicked or the kid who died. Zero.

Cop: This kid was handled roughly, you should be arrested!
