Favorite 80's Space Movie?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Favorite 80's Space Movie?

A thread I have diabolically created simply to say that "The Last Starfighter" was a pretty cool movie, as I recall.

The old pilot in that reminds me a lot of the aliens in Enemy Mine, another class film!

Yes he does, and yes it was. Nice work by Lou Gosset Jr. on that one.

But I must say, for Draconians, they sure weren't very draconian.

Starchaser: The Legend of Orin

A total Starwars ripoff. But damn it is good.

Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.

The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

Well, yeah, you can't really compare The Last Starfighter with Aliens.
That's like comparing Space Camp with Apollo 13. Or Starman with Alien Nation.

Yay!

Coincedentally enough, I bought The Last Starfighter on video last week because I couldn't find it on DVD. They also showed it on TV last Christmas, but I think that was the edited version.

The memory can play tricks on us. ;)

I think we can put Battle Beyond the Stars in the same bracket:

I'm going to put in a pre-emptive "Transformers - The Movie was a big pile of poo" before anybody tries to be clever by mentioning it.

Aliens > j00.

I'm going off on a bit of a wild tangent, but i'm going to say Gremloids (or "Hyperspace" as it was apparently called in the US)... low budget, poor quality spoof, but i like it.

Another vote for Aliens though.

Yes, I DO remember the movie "Lifeforce" That movie freaked me out as a kid.

The scene I remember most was two or three long haired brunette naked woman steadily walking on these security officers, and the officers shoot at them, and nothing comes out of them except for some ketchup, and then just keep on walking.

Howard the Duck DOES count.

The Empire Strikes Back

Was there a film called The Voyagers or The explorers? I thinkk River Phoenix played a kid called Wolfgang and the made a space pod out of a Waltzer cart.

Watched that film too many times as a kid. I guess it was a poor mans Flight of the Navigator.

Lifeforce included a cameo by Patrick Stewart as the asylum's mad doctor/warden.

Betcha didn't know that, EmVee? ;)

Yes! That movie is excellent! I still quote that film now:
Buckethead: "Seize the fritters!" (whenever I want something)
or:
"Deathray's fixed" (used to say that things are going well or working)
or:
"You're standing on my foot. My FOOT!" (just when people annoy me).
And many more.
The shopping trolley speederbike sequence is cheesy but brilliant too.
I must buy Explorers now as well.
This is great - it's like all my favourite 80s movies recalled. :D

These aren't necessarily space movies, but War Games and Red Dawn were certainly great Cold War Apocalypse movies.
