We ARE the real Spurs. An international behemoth of basketball talent the likes of which you have never seen before.
I spit upon your remarks, good sir. And I don't care for your SOCCER centric view.
We are a simple people in San Antonio. The eighth largest city in the US, tucked away deep in the heart of Texas. People look at us as boring simpletons, and to be sure, we ARE the biggest small town in the world. But we have our Spurs, our only professional sporting team, a group of 12 hard working, non flashy guys who are the only celebrities we have, and they are very good at basketball, and we love them more than life itself. Long live the Spurs!!!

So, can you give me any hard evidence authenticating the "realness" of your Spurs and/or the "fakeness" of my Spurs?
Man, you guys are argumentative. Rainin' on my parade, but I've got an umbrella. Hey, that'd make a good line for a song. I never remember the Arizona and St. Louis Cardinals having to throw down for supremacy.

But whereas I would argue that even though football, to be sure, is a more popular sport globally, the football Spurs are not as globally popular a team as the basketball Spurs, who are basically THE home team for people in Central/South America and France who care about basketball. Make no mistake, basketball is a global sport now.

Just because my last sentance is
doesn't negate the fact that my first sentanceMake no mistake, basketball is global now
Spurs games are broadcast throughout the Americas. The NBA Finals were televised to 200 countries in over 75 different languages.football, to be sure, is a more popular sport globally

But the question is not is Africa full of football fans, the question is, is Africa full of Spurs fans?
I mean, that's like saying, "Everyone drinks water, so Evian is more popular than Coke."
Just because people drink water doesn't mean they drink Evian, and just because people play football doesn't mean that they're dyed in the wool Spurs fans. It's not even like Tottenham (that's the Spurs, right?) is one of the crown jewels of European football.

I've no idea about that, I do however have the impression that English football is bizarely popular in a lot of the world! o.oShanti418 wrote:But the question is not is Africa full of football fans, the question is, is Africa full of Spurs fans?

Your Spurs are NOT Man U. They are NOT Real Madrid. They're not even Arsenal, in terms of global popularity. Not to mention that there are a lot of people who, when they think of a North London football team who plays on White Hart Lane, they think of Tottenham Hotspur, NOT "The Spurs". Not to mention that they finished 9th in the Premier League this year.

Yes!!! The Spurs are the NBA Champs!!!
Not to mention the Spurs are the most international team in the NBA. We have players from Argentina, France, Virgin Islands, Slovenia, Serbia, Australia. While they may not be the football Spurs we here in Texas are proud of our Spurs who also have huge followings in France and Argentina.
The Spurs may have the makings of a new Dynasty. Only the Pistons can really give them a challenge for the next few years. Hats off to the Pistons by the way, who gave a great fight and set up a wild Game 7.

****! Its Gambit. Hey dood.
Anyway:
Tottenham Hotspur - founded 1882
America Usa Hoopball Spurs - founded 1967
Spurs have a long legacy of European success and are one of the better known UK clubs globally, more so as they traditionally have a large Jewish following.
They also come up first in google.
Nuff Said.
Well done on winning your thing tho.

Yes sir, Gambit, great to meet you and THANKS for backing me up.
If the MACHINE says Tott. Spurs come up first, then I guess we can't argue with the MACHINE, eh? Hell, if I googled "my mom", and the first thing that came up was "kill your mom," I'd go buy a shotgun right now! Who needs morality and common sense when you've got Google?

Yep
Its great to be back.
For those that were wondering where Ive been if you remember correctly I stated that I was in the Army Reserves. Well in November of 2003 we got called up. I left for Iraq in January of 2004 and came back February of 2005 and got released from active duty in March. But I came back just in time for the Spurs Championship run and have enough money to buy the Transformers DVDs and collect all the old toys I never had as a child.
Back to the Spurs I think some of yall underestimate the Spurs popularity. The Spurs are not that popular in the US but thats because our players dont act like gangsters. They show up at Press Conferences in suits rather that big baggy shirts and jeans and doo rags. They also dont scream everytime one of them touches the ball. The Spurs are also one of the lowest paid teams (due to the players taking pay cuts to help the team) so as a result their budget does not resemble the total budget of some third-world country (talking to you Knicks). However, we have more fans in other countries that most other teams. Especially in Argentina, where Manu Ginobili has reached superstar status and is even more popular than football players over there. Not to mention Ginobili is rapidly becoming a star in the US and a sex symbol for female fans. And Tony Parker (from France) is also dating "Desperate Housewives" sexy star Eva Longoria. Just a little info on the Spurs for our international Transfans so you guys can see what we see in our Spurs.
