(do feel free to use this thread to brag about a game that you kick ass in)
Well, there's really no reason to do this, but what the heck... this might be the future of the prem. league.
Recently I've been playing a lot of Football Manager 2005. I started with Middlesbrough, season 04/05 (it is now the 23:rd November, 2008).
As you can see, I didn't rock the first two seasons... but season 07/08. That was an awesome season.
Just look at this.
I won the Intertoto Cup (Euro Vase) - and qualified for the Uefa Cup (Euro Cup) which I won.
I also finished second in the FA Cup, 2006. And second in the European Super Cup (Champ. League winner VS Uefa Cup winner).
The past top scorers in Middlesbrough
The dudes with the most amount of assists.
And now, over to the current season - and also; How are other Transfans favourite teams doing?
This is what the current league table looks like. Remember, this is season 08/09.
Top goalscorers.
Assists.
Average rating.
This is my starting eleven, the best of the best (I have a really strong bench though. Cassano, Grönkjaer etc.
Arsenal starting eleven.
Manchester United starting eleven.
Tottenham starting eleven.
Liverpool starting eleven.
Southampton is a sad story.
Their current starting eleven.
The past league winners.
The past FA Cup winners.
Well, that's about it.

Brendocon wrote:Obby, what team instruction set up do you use?
I'm getting annoyed by my team's approach of "piss over a team for the first hour, whilst failing to actually get any shots in, then cock up at the back and lose 1-0"
Though I did thump Newcastle 4-1. That was funny.
Team Instructions
Defensive line: Normal (in the middle - allthough I change this sometimes, depending on who I'm up against).
Focus Passing: Down both flanks (I have fast wingers, with great dribbling. It rocks).
But the 'Team instructions' doesn't really affect many of my players since I have specifik instructions for all of them.
Personal instructions.
WING BACKS
Right defender.
Left defender.
If I am dominating, I tend to give my wing backs 'arrows' to the middle of the field, and set Mentality two or three clicks to the right.
And also I'll tell them to make Forward runs, and Runs with ball.
But only if I am totally dominating.
Tackling; Normal (hard should only be used if players have 17 - 20 in tackling).
Center defender. (the one to the right)
Center defender. (the one to the left)
WINGERS
When playing away against greater teams, I remove the arrows.
If I am not being totally dominated, I give them arrows one notch up.
Right winger.
Left winger.
Central midfielder. (the one to the right)
Central midfielder. (the one to the left)
Forward. (the one to the right)
Forward. (the one to the left)
Goalkeeper.
My idea with the tactic is;
The wingbacks are neither defensive, or attacking. They're just their, in the middle of everything, helping out where ever the ball is.
One central defender is very defensive, and hardly ever moves out of his central position.
The other central defender will try and close down, and is more 'moveable'.
The wingers are fast, with great dribbling. A lot of my attacking plays go through them.
One of the central midfielders will take more defensive responsibility than the other.
And one of them will be more attacking.
One of the attackers will chase the ball like a maniac, no matter where it is.
The other one... meh, he's just here to score goals
My main goal with the tactic is "Defense first".
When the opposing team has a corner or a freekick, all of my players (except the über attacking forward) will go back and help out, mark players, etc.
If I win the ball back, my wingers will run like hell and we'll hopefully score on the counter attack.
Oh well.. I'm babbling
As I said; I am not 100% sure about the settings - but I'll give you the correct ones as fast as I can.
Any questions?
Good luck!

i had a longer, involved statement here, but it all comes down to this:
Freedom is the right of all sentient beings, as is justice, peace, and rebelion. and these rights must be protected at all costs.

Cheers, mate. Will look over it in depth later on.Obfleur wrote:There you go Brendocon. Good luck
My luck appears to have changed with a formation tweak (playing Folly as a DMC directly behind Svensson as MC, rather than both in the middle of a four - lets me control the midfield better)
My last five results:
Saints 1-0 Bolton
Saints 0-1 Blackburn
Norwich 1-2 Saints
Saints 3-0 Boro (with a Phillips pen saved in injury time... drat!)
Saints 4-2 Man City
Phillips has scored 7 in the last 3 games... and to think the fans were worried about Beattie's injury!
With 19 games gone, I currently sit 12th. Won 7, drawn 2, lost 10. I have scored the most goals outside the top 2, but have also conceded the most in the division.
Next match = Man Utd at home. My run of luck could be about to end...
Grrr. Argh.

How's it going Hound and Brendocon?
I just resigned from Middlesbrough.
Season 09/10; I won the Uefa Cup, the Fa Cup and I finished third in the league.
Prem. League.
Stewart Downing was named "Player's player of the year".
Petter Andersson, Stewart Downing and Antonio Cassano were named in the "Players' team of the year".
I came in second place in "Manager of the year".
Stewart Downing was named "English footballer of the year".
Antonio Cassano came in third place in "Premier division top goalscorer".
Also;
Stewart Downing hade the highest average rating in the league and was the dude that made the most assists.
Uefa Cup
Obafemi Martins (my player, of course) was the top goalscorer - and had the highest average rating.
FA Cup
Obafemi Martins was the top goalscorer.
I felt that there was nothing more for me to do at the club, and thus I resigned.
The club has £59 million in the bank (£42 million can be used to buy players).
And they have three quality players coming in on bosman.
All thanks to me
Now I'm unemployed and looking for a new job. The World Cup is coming up - and when that's finished hopefully I'll be able to get a job as the manager for a national team.
Good night everybody.
"Middlesbrough boss retires.
Middlesbrough manager Robin Andersson has resigned from his position as manager after many years in the job.
The Middlesbrough board were quick to pay tribute to their long-serving manager, declaring that whilst they were sad to see Robin leave, his announcement had given everyone an opportunity to celebreate one of the club's most faithful servants."

I have yet to try the new tactics as my team suddenly became absolutely brilliant.
We obliterated Everton at Goodison Park (3-0 up inside 25 mins), then we trounced 4th placed Liverpool 4-1 at home, before following that up by knocking Chelsea out of the FA Cup (they bought Ronaldinho for £42m, yet couldn't score - final score 2-0 at SMS).
I am understandably reluctant to change things around. Kevin Phillips just got player of the month for February. Kenton and Andy Svensson are regulars in the Team of the Week line ups.
I currently sit in 10th place in the Prem, and have a FA Cup quarter final at Charlton coming up. Charlton are 19th in the Prem. I suspect a semi is on the horizon.
My profile currently gives me a 20 for professionalism and describes me as a "media-friendly boss". Awh.
Current (all conquering) line-up:
Antti Niemi (GK)
Darren Kenton (RB)
Jelle van Damme (LB)
Andreas Jakobsson (RCB)
Claus Lundekvam (LCB - is brilliant now, a couple of months in the reserves got his work ethic up)
Yoann Folly (DMC)
David Prutton (RM)
Anders Svensson (MC)
Fabrice Fernandes (LM - he dives like nobody you've ever seen!)
James Beattie & Kevin Phillips up front.
Subs from:
Peter Crouch, Neil McCann, Rory Delap, Matt Oakley, Michael Svensson (still on the road back to fitness), Marian Pahars, Danny Higginbotham, Graeme Le Saux, Richard Walker
I am £40k p/w over my wages budget, though, so I need to trim the squad in the summer. I somehow doubt Beattie will get the new £45k p/w contract he's chasing. A summer move to Arsenal or Blackburn looks possible as he's out of contract at the end of next season.
I bought Richard Walker and Justin Cochrane from Crewe at the beginning of the season. Walker did really well at centre half for a while but has fallen down the pecking order. Cochrane has been quality for the reserves in midfield, but I may end up selling him because Stuart Anderson looks a far better prospect.
Hrm.
George Junior Weah is joining in the summer. He is looking forward to working with me.
