That b#####d Mugabe. Someone please kill him!

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

ITV news has just said Mugabe has made it illegal for poor people with no food.

http://www.itv.com/news/index_1869552.html

To make matters worse, President Mugabe has just announced that he plans to ban the urban population from growing their own food.

Foreign Secretary Jack
This guy has to be got rid of. What a evil b#sterd.

Problem is the alliance of african leaders, led by south africa, all support him and generally deny anything bad happening anywhere unless they think it will get them more money.

how do you go and remove a dictator when-

a. we're hardly known by the residents in a positive light
b. the other countrys there will actively oppose us.

it really really sucks :(

do they get much money? I thought because of Muggy they got not a lot.
"Anybody who saw the reports on ITN by Neil Connery of the brutal use of conflict by Robert Mugabe to make 500,000 of his own people homeless will understand just what conflict in Africa means... So far, efforts by the British Government, European Governments and world Governments have failed stop Mugabe's brutality."
What efforts?

Did you send a nasty letter?

can someone fake some evidence that he has oil or something? Maybe we can rip off some guys phd and put in a dossier?

Plus i don't see any WMDs, which is proof that he has some.

Lets ****ing go!

Part of the money for 'poor 3rd world nations' goes there. They won't openly acknowledge the fact, but it does get distributed there as well. Mainly to relief programs who can't help anybody because the government won't allow it.

I wonder where that obnoxious, holier-than-thou scruff bag Geldoff is? Be nice to see him take a stand about things like this.

I honestly wish I could have posted. i really do.

Anyone see that documentary BG did a night or two ago?

He was blaming the west for everything there. Sure we f##ed it up a load but considering South America, India, Korea and other asian countries have gotton richer while Africa gets screwed by it's own leaders and got even poorer I don't think that "the west" can continue to get the blame. Especially considering Africa has had far more aid and help than other countries that started out on the same foot.

the two factors are intrinsically linked tho. he seems perfectly happy to try and bully 'us' or (western) governments into doing things like he knows better, but where is he when facing genuine tyrants like mugabe? suddenly he doesn't seem to have so much to say. two-faced git. {has developed a passionate dislike of bob geldoff}

Rod Liddle on question time made an excellent point i thought when africa was raised, and one of the welsh mps was there saying how it was all our fault and we have to take all blame for it. quite simply he said "look, we've got to stop doing this!"

i think hes summed it up well. we must accept we've contributed massively to whats happening by laying all the groundwork, but the corrupt swines in charge there must also shoulder the blame. all the time we continue to guilt trip ourselves rather than learning from it and moving on we aren't helping anybody there properly imo.

True, but exactly what can we do?

If the UN goes in there full force and tries to oust Mugabe then we'll just have another war on our hands with a nasty outcome for the locals, not to mention the public outcry about sending troops on another war mission.

However, if we do nothing, then Mugabe will just continue being a douchebag and will eventually turn the country into a wasteland. The UN will get blamed for not taking action and will probably be presured into sending troops there.

Damned if you do damned if you don't IMO.

And we can't afford to keep sending money - we have enough cash problems ourselves.

nah theres always another way. The US could start rigging elections there like it did in South America for a start.

Africas nowhere near as bad as iraq, which was sewn up tighter than the proverbial duck's rearend. infiltrating and bringing down the regimes there would be a small matter for the combined CIA, MI6 and the israeli forces (assuming all three could be persuaded).

imo anyways.
