Fascinating movie. Highly recommended, even if you're already familiar with quantum mechanics.

Impactor: The movie is about a lot of things, but basically it uses quantum theory as a starting point and then extrapolates it to make the point that since reality and existance are only tendancies and probabilities, you can affect your own reality by your conscious thought.
Perhaps Karl could explain it better.
Karl: I don't know, when they showed the peoples' credentials at the end, virtually all of them had graduate degrees if not higher, and most of them were currently teaching on some level. Granted, there was the ONE girl who, according to her credentials, was simply channeling someone else. But she was hillarious, so I can't fault her for that.
Personally, the idea that "hands manifest thought" is something I've always believed in. The idea that nothing is out of my grasp if I'm focused and determined enough.
Then again, at the end of the movie, I was like, "This sounds an awful lot like 'Do not try to bend the spoon. Only try to comprehend the truth that there is no spoon.'"

Okay, I'm going to start doing that. That sounds handy as hell.Shanti418 wrote:Granted, there was the ONE girl who, according to her credentials, was simply channeling someone else.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

I don't doubt there were people of credit in it. Generally however they had little to say about the new age elements of it, and were AFAIK editted to make allow all the hippy psychic stuff to be included o.oShanti418 wrote:Impactor: The movie is about a lot of things, but basically it uses quantum theory as a starting point and then extrapolates it to make the point that since reality and existance are only tendancies and probabilities, you can affect your own reality by your conscious thought.

Matrix, eh? Hmm.Shanti418 wrote: Then again, at the end of the movie, I was like, "This sounds an awful lot like 'Do not try to bend the spoon. Only try to comprehend the truth that there is no spoon.'"
Based on this,
I would've thought they were more in-line with Star Trek: TNG's The Traveller. The movie is about a lot of things, but basically it uses quantum theory as a starting point and then extrapolates it to make the point that since reality and existance are only tendancies and probabilities, you can affect your own reality by your conscious thought.
Still, it does sound like an interesting starting point that was extrapolated into a bit of New Age tosh, and credentials mean nothing when it comes to tosh.

Yeah, I really urge everyone to check it out. I guarentee you at the very least, you'll be entertained for a couple hours.
IMHO, the only reason the movie went into new age mysticism and "hippie psychic stuff" is because that's where the information led them. And this information is from respected academians. People who are saying that mathematics and science is basically proving certain "mystic" things such as alternate reality layters and remote viewing, etc.
I mean, I think you could certainly say parts of it deal in "new age mysticism", but I don't think that label should be used as a dirty word or in a derogatory light. NOT saying anyone here is doing this.

While that sounds neither derogatory not dirty, your dissent is duly noted.Karl Lynch wrote:I'm doing it. Good luck to people who believe/practice it but don't try and pass it off as reasoned science.
I think there's a big difference between "new age" people trying to use science to prove their theories (which sounds like what you don't like) and scientists finding out their theories have corollaries in "new age" lines of thought (which is what I think the movie is about)

Kind of. Science and quantum theory are beginning to discuss and/or describe certain phenomenon and certain aspects of metaphysics mathematically, whereas prior, said phenomenon were deemed more mystical and without basis in our scientific universe.

I'd quite like to see this, but I'm pissed off they called it What the BLEEP do we know?. What's wrong with [composite word including 'f*ck']? Apart from the fact that this board auto-censors it, of course. BLEEP just sounds naff.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

At least I'll always have my backwards American pronunciation, like adverTISEment, instead of adVERTISment.
And color doesn't have a u, just like favorite.
