If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

As Karl said i largely feel sorry for him, he is clearly barking. Vilifying teh sick doesn't strike me as the way forward for society, eevn if their illnesses have some nasty consequences.

pedophiles could be considered mentally sicks, like murderers - instead of using doctors we put them in jail to protect the public.
If Jako was ill and had performed lude acts with children, taken advantage, should we say "ahhh - put him in hospital hes clearly ill" - or "throw away the kill the pervert"
the fine line our society walks

Problem is most of our definitions change and evolve with time. What we consider a child is a product of the Victorian era, prior to that marriage with people as young as 14 were common. 'Children' were considered as just little adults.
Similarly what constitutes a pervert and someone who needs help changes with time.
Not that I'm adding anything here, I'm just adding further complications to the issue.

Changing definitions is growth, for better or worse.

I think a lot of that had to do with lifespan... the average is supposed to be something like 70-80 now, right? Back then it was more like 30 iirc. Childbearin' years were few.
We don't need to reproduce immeadiately upon sexual maturity anymore. There's no reason to engage in an activity that is socially unacceptable and repulsive today... urges to do so, I don't know. I'm assuming it could be tied to the past (genetically) in some fashion... attracted to the young, reproduce more...

Well the point I'm trying to make is that what we consider bad and nasty is in a lot of cases dictated just by 'well this what we think' rather than actual reasoning.
I'd have thought that for children up until about 14 sex is something thats liable to confuse them, make them feel used and objectified rather than loved and is liable to lead to clandestine and damaging relationships based on threats.
However 14-16 is a tricky region. Some people develop and mature faster than others, physically and emotionally. Personally I would be very very very wary of a relationship even with a 16 yo based on that reasoning, although I'm attracted to some young men who might be only 15. Your sex drive doesn't switch off based on age. I often wonder if that makes me a bad person

Not at all. I sometimes see an attractive young woman and go and talk to her only to find she's 14 or 15 (this makes me sound dodgy, doesn't it?). Obviously I'm not going to pursue any kind of relationship with this girl (except perhaps pals), but even when she 'comes of age' I may still be reluctant to be 'physical' with her, just because I knew her when she was too young.
One of my sister's friends only turned 16 last week (coincedentally enough), but although I'm fond of her, it still would feel wrong to try and date her. Perhaps I'm just too old.
Damn young teens and their mature looks.
As for still buying MJ's music - I will if it's any good. But recently it's been dump anyway.

Attractive is attractive. It's how you act on that attraction.
Muchas gracias to Mob for the Sig, proving why he's called 'King'.
The "i" in "Señior" from "Señior's Covenant" is intentional and part of a stupid & cheesy inside joke from '02. Thank you for your concern.

I ain't no perv. But the sweet sixteen I mentioned is quite attractive. The dress she wore at her party was also rather... revealing.
She quite likes me too. Her father doesn't though.
God, I sound like a dirty old man. I'm not REALLY old, by the way. Just older than HER by rather a bit.

"Joey, have you ever been to a Turkish prison?"
I mean, who hasn't been in a situation where you've mistaken a hotty's age? In my case, she turned out to be twelve (down at the station) but I honestly swear that she could've passed for fifteen. What can I say... I was a mixed up eight year old from the wrong side of town.

Think about it. What were you doing at 25? For most you get out of college, keeping a job and making a living for yourself?
Now, what were you doing when you were a teenager? College or High School. You're in a totally different environment. You're concentrating on school and thats it.
Now granted once you're over 18 you can pretty much do what you want. My complaint is more directed towards the under 18 kids being involved with older people. However, I dont see a problem with an age gap if you are 40 and he/she is like 30, theres nothing wrong with that.
IMO I think its better for teens to date teens and for adults to date adults, only because you will both usually be at the same points in your lives at the time. When one partner is at a different some other point it has the possibilty to make life difficult for one of them or both.

Yes, stay in your pigeonholes people.

The only fine line we walk is 'how much does doing the right thing cost'?
Naturally people who are a threat should be segregated but where possible they should also be treated. Locking people up who are somehow damaged in the head and doing nothing about it is to me nothing but immoral.

I think that we should take everybody who thinks or behaves differently to how we do, and throw them into a dungeon for the rest of their lives.
Or burn them.
Or gas them.
People who think the Earth is a different shape to what we know is true.
People who think they've been abducted by aliens, when we know there's no such thing.
People who have different religious beliefs to us.
People who have abhorent sexual preferences.
Just exterminate the lot of them. After all, there's no point in them sharing the world with us norms who know that they're sick/insane/deluded/possessed/cursed, and it's not like social perceptions will ever change to reveal that maybe they had one up on us all along.
He's not the Son of God. He's a very naughty boy.
Crucify him!
Grrr. Argh.

Did you come up with that one all by yourself?
My dad was twenty years older than my mum. Think about that - he was TWENTY when she was BORN. That said, they didn't meet until she was twenty herself - but even then, that makes him a dirty old man by most people's standards. Considering that he was only three years younger than my mum's mum.
Perhaps he should have married my gran?

some relationships work, some don't, there are lots of factors and age isn't always one of them.
