I only know of one 'major' footy transfer this far... and that's Van der Sar -> Manchester United.
And I have to ask; Why Van der Sar?
Sure, he's a ******* great keeper, but he's 34 years old (and he'll turn 35 in october).
Why not try and get a younger keeper, and build something from it? Develope him in to the kind of player you want.
Peter Schmeichel played in the club between 1991 and 1999.
To me this means stability. The defenders and the keeper 'get to know each other' (yeah you know what I mean).
Van der Sar will most likely retire in one or two years (well, maybe not if his middle name is Seaman). And then the process will start all over again.
The thing is, there was a rumour in Sweden saying that Man United were scouting Andreas Isaksson, 24 years old (swedish keeper in Rennes).
He's proven himself to be a great keeper (both in the french league, and in the swedish national team).
I just can't understand why you'd want to buy a 34/35 year old keeper, when you can get one that is 24 years old.
And Man United must have the money to be able to buy almost anyone.
And this isnt about "Why didn't they buy the swedish dude?!" - it's about "Why didn't they buy the younger dude, that will most likely develope in to a super great keeper?"
But if I am correctly informed, they got Van der Sar quite cheap, which might explain the whole ting..?
It's the same thing with the hockey team I support. They recently aquired four new players. Three of them were 31 years old, and one was 33 years old. There's no future in them, damnit.
Anways... any other transfers that are interesting to discuss?
I heard Chelsea are interested in <insert random big star name>.

simply because it cost them bugger all money and hes a proven keeper at all levels.
It will give them a few years of stability to find a better keeper.
your younger keeper hasnt played in the world cup or the champions league or the premmier league, and thus with no experience, could prove to be a bad choice.
Most pundits think its an alright move.

Chelsea has signed spanish left back Asier Del Horno.
Man United on the other hand has signed Park Ji-sung (South Korea), from PSV Eindhoven.
If I understand everything correctly he played 27 games for them last season.
He's the first South Korean player in england - time to boost the souvenir sales in South Korea, yes?

Park Ji Song has fricking loads of skill is ridiculously fast for a small player.
He destroyed Milan in the semi's last season. The only thing he can't do is finish. Otherwise he is class.
I don't think he is quite first team quality in Utd and I do think an element of shirt selling is part of the deal but he i fricking fast on the ball.

He will give them ngood cover on the bench at least as he's better than Fletcher.
Del Horno is a fantastic signed for Chelsea, one of the best left backs in the world.
I'm getting worried now, Liverpool still havn't signed anyone and its only a month till our first competitive game - preseason training is this week I think. Where is Reina?
