I went to my local Blockbuster Video today. Why? I don't know, I was taking a walk and I wound up in the area. Anyway, they have a special going on now. Trade in any 3 PS2, X-Box, or Gamecube games and get any of their pre-played games for only $5. The fine print said that games that are excluded are any sports titles more than a year old (including wrestling titles). Some of their pre-played games are less than a month old. The one that catches my eye is Revenge of the Sith: The Video Game. This game was marked $45.
Interesting...
I decided to experiment. My local Blockbuster is within a few blocks of a Gamestop, an Electronics Boutique, and another Blockbuster. I chose EB. The clerk asked me what I was looking for. "I need 3 of your cheapest games so I can take advantage of Blockbuster's generous offer," I told him. I bought 3 titles for $5 each.
So, I'm thinking I'm on track to get this game for only about $20. But I was mistaken. I brought up the games and told the clerk that I wanted to do the trade-in deal. She scanned my games and said that they were worth a grand total of $9. "The jig is up," I thought. Nope. I had misread the Blockbuster deal. The deal was "Trade in any 3 games and get a pre-played game of your choice...in addition to also getting the full amount of store credit the games you'd get if you were just trading them in. So, I wound up with Revenge of the Sith and $4 in store credit for only $15. All the clerk said was, "Wow. You got a really good eal there."
Yes. Yes I did.
As for the game. Meh. Well worth the 15 dollars I paid for it, but if I'd paid 45 or 50, I'd have been very disappointing. The cinema scenes look like you're watching a bootleg DVD.

Genius, sir. Your diabolical mind will not doubt serve you well in future ventures.

My girlfriend suggested this alternate approach.
Go into the Blockbuster and buy 3 games for dollars each.
Trade in those games and pick up the Star Wars game.
Star Wars is a "Most Wanted Used" game. They pay 35 dollars for it.
Repeat until your bank account is full.
On paper, this works perfectly. You'd have to assume that the manager of the place would be on the phone to corporate headquarters to stop this after a half hour or so...
