If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Kylie has breast cancer.
Very upset at this news, me and the missus were supposed to see her at Glastonbury this year. I hope she recovers.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

i agree it is sad but i bear a grimace at the prospect of a media full of 'oh no a famous person is ill' stories.

Sad news. The media coverage has been a bit OTT, but yes, if it brings more awareness to the disease then thats a good thing.

The cynic in me responds with the inspiration probably being
"If only I had Kylie's millions then I'd be able to be treated ASAP and get the best care available, instead of going onto an NHS waiting list and catching MRSA from a dirty hospital."

She's raised loads of money for breast cancer charities even before all this. She deserves the best treatment she can get, irrespective of the cost (which she'll probably foot herself anyway).
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I hate Kylie. My sister, brother, and other sister love her. My dad died of cancer nearly a year ago. I know how horrible it is.
Still hate Kylie though.

hate is a strong word, im trying to work how you can 'Hate' someone whos only tried to make ppl happy.
Sure I understand if you dont like her music, but Hate, god I think I hate one person on this planet and im a horribly vindictive man I admit. but I only hate one guy in the whole world.

If we can 'hate' only one person, then it has to be Kylie. If hate is such a strong word and offends people, then can I say I dislike her with all the dislike I can muster? I can't see that it makes it any better however I say it though. I just don't like her in any way (not just her 'mu-sick').
I'm sorry she has cancer, but I don't see any news stories about the millions of others who also have the disease. I also don't think that it raises awareness of cancer at all - more that her fame distracts from it. Besides, who - in this horrilbe world - hasn't been touched by 'the big C' - even if only indirectly? I think we're all aware of it by now, and don't need some talentless airhead to drive the point home further. I always give to cancer charities because of my father's death from the disease, so it isn't that I don't care. It's just that I don't care about Kylie.
My sister would argue differently though.

I agree, millions of ppl have to deal with Cancer everyday not just Kylie, but she didnt ask for it im sure nor did she do it for publicity, since it came to light she had this condtion she hasnt been in the public eye shes fighting a battle like many other ppl have to do.
But I still couldnt hate the women for ay reason, at best dislike her? what has she honestly done to you for you to feel so strongly about it?
I hate 1 person on this planet, they did horrible things to me as a child and i guess thats the yard stick for what I judge hate by, even dislike. I just find it interesting when ppl use the term hate as I always think of the hate I feel inside and how that reflects...

Who does?
Sorry if I'm offending anyone. Life just sucks for me right now (check out my post on 'General Discussions'). Not that it compares to having cancer. I'm just feeling sorry for myself at the moment.
I hope Kylie gets better, but doesn't sing or go outside anymore after that - it's the least she can do.
Yes - I am an arse.

So blame the media. I don't care if your saying your like her or not, it's your free opinion, but she didn't ask to be splashed in the papers. And yes she is only getting it because she is famous and in the public eye, and no it doesn't make her any diffeerent than anyone else.

Er quite, because everyone who gets cancer gets the sympathy of millions.
And its her vast fortune and influence which makes her different. She almost certainly gets better treatment, and undoubtedly a generally nicer experience of her treatment than regular people.
I've nothing against that in principal, but it does raise the issue of people like the Queen Mum being flown to priority surgery in a helicopter just because they have a fish bone in their gullets... which I do consider to be a tad unfair in a nation of alleged equality.

My mum had a mild stroke (if these things can ever be referred to as mild) a few months ago. It took her two weeks to see her doctor, which is utter madness. Then they screwed up her hospital appointment and she had to wait a month. Then they lost her results for another two weeks. Then she had to wait a week to see her doctor for the results. It turned out that she'd had a bloodclot in her neck and if she hadn't taken some aspirin when she felt ill and dizzy - which dissolved the clot - she could have died. The doctor had the nerve to say that she was lucky 'they' caught it in time, when they've done bugger-all to help her. She's still having trouble getting her prescriptions for treating this sorted out as the drugs she takes keep being taken off the market or changed. Then she has a whole new set of side-effects to deal with. If she was the Queen or famous, this would have been sorted out on day one.
Gah!!!
