If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Nintendo Revolution
Post
by Impactor returns 2.0 » Tue May 17, 2005 12:07 pm
Sorry Karl
latest information
May 17, 2005 - New details regarding Nintendo's next-generation console, codenamed Revolution, have started to sprinkle onto the Internet. The machine, which will be revealed during Nintendo's pre-E3 2005 show on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, will sport a slick, black design and a front blue light.
Revolution will be "two-to-three times more powerful than GameCube," according to Nintendo, which also acknowledges that the next-generation race isn't solely about new technologies. By contrast, Microsoft's Xbox 360 console is 13-15 times more powerful than the first, according to the publisher. And Sony says it's PlayStation 3 is roughly 35 times more powerful than PlayStation 2.
Nintendo also revealed that using Revolution's new Wi-Fi connection, gamers would be able to go online to a free gamer-matching service. Interestingly, in a move similar to Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade service, Revolution users will be able to download classic and new Nintendo games over the Internet. Nintendo cited such examples as Donkey Kong and Super Mario Sunshine, which suggests that Revolutionaries could have access to games for all the publisher's previous consoles.
Should be a few hours.
Whats clear is in 'power' terms, this machine is dead in the water to the other two...[/quote]

I've actually played Gamecube alot more then I've played PLaystation 2.
And I've owned my Gamecube for a year - and my Ps2 since.. well, since it came out.
On a side not I've played the GTA-series on the pc, not the Ps2.
If the new Zelda is free from boats and water, I'll buy the 'revolution'.
Can't believe I'm still here.

heh - it is a bit naff I know. I prefer to know how many piplines a machine has ...
Seriously though, it does seem to suggest that the new Nintendo machine is going to be underpowered in comparison. and even if this means game X doesnt look real, it also means the machine lacks CPU power, so any kind of new groovy interface, VR or somthing, isnt gonna happen.
I bet its gonna be backwards compatable, and you can download every game they have ever made, ever... or somthing...
Id buy that!

What the hell is that thing? It looks like someones CD drive and cable modem had sex.
PLEASE go back to the drawing board with that thing, Nintendo. You've got time.
As far as Nintnedo goes, if they put out a totally unique and/or "revolutionary" game experince that's unavailable on the other systems, I'm sure they'll carve out enough market share to survive, as the kids will still like Mario and Zelda, their parents will still like the cheaper price tag, and we older gamers have the money to get a relatively cheap Revolution in addition to the 360 or PS3 if the software warrents it. (big caveat, I know)
But Impactor, if anyone, and I mean ANYONE, put all the NES and SNES games ever made all together on one disk, or even one system, I would be there in three seconds flat. And then I would realize, with utter horror, that I'm not wearing any pants.

9:27 am: Iwata: Convinced game development on Revolution will be easier and far less costly than for other machines. "Big idea can prevail over big budget." Revolution is a solution to help maximize creative freedom. Iwata then talks about backward compatibility. "Redefining term of backward compatability." It's a virtual console, able to download 20 years of Nintendo content. You will be able to Download NES, Super NES and N64 games. You can get every Nintendo game ever made. "Revolution shares a vision with DS. The machine is just a tool for software."
haha - my brain got it right!

Hopefully. As long as it has the mini-games that the others had, like Jesus Christ monkey balls golf, and Jesus Christ monkey balls bowling.

Keep it coming lads.
Thinks about new online DS and Mario Kart + Revolution, hmm... I see possibilities... Now, when thinking about the tech specs, if it is 3 times as powerful as the Cube, wich is a 128 bit console, what does this mean? Would be nice to see what it will end up as.
Oh, and the design is obviously a prototype people. That pic is a bit dated now, design might probably vary some.

the pic is as dated as being released... yesterday! - but true, its a prototype, that whilst looking nice looks a bit, non-nintendoish and more modemish.
whilst its cool, it also lacks any, well desing?
3 times the power, hmm not measured in 'bit' terms anymore. so its roughly gonna push around 3 times as many polygons, in terms of how powerfull this is in comparison to the other machines. its no where near, the big N couldnt afford it.
What we dont know yet is what the controller looks like, hopefully it will bea revloution because right now what we have is an 'emulator' and a slightly more powerfull game cube.
Not much to be excited about considering I have both of those options in a PC right now. or soon in an XBOX 360 or a PS3...
Of course ill buy the thing to play new Mario Zelda 3598698 etc, to be honest id rather seem them go Segas route and produce games for the big boys, and focus more money in the handheld market.
so far im not excited, there is no 'WOW' factor as of yet and you must be mad to think there is, the only E3 thing to make me go WOW so far was the Unreal 3 engine.

hee hee it sounds like im being proven right, the Nintendo Revulsion will just be cashing in on all of Nintendo's previous hits instead of worrying about making them more

Well, that does it really. I'll have to get my a Revolution.
The new X-Box (X360?) will be released at christmas, and the Ps3 next year - right?
But what about the Revolution, has any dates been mentioned?
Can't believe I'm still here.

Even as we speak, someone just said the same thing to the Nintendo Revolution's chief designer... who proceeded to have the smile drain from his face, before running off to his drawing board saying "erm, I think I left the cat on fire!"

its going to be powered by brain waves.
Am i the only one who thinks this machine is just a 'novelty' I mean anyone with a PC can emulate all thier games anyways.
what it doesnt say is, will it be backwards compatable with GC games.
much like how 360 and PS3 are with thier old games...

actually I think i read it plays GC dics so I guess it is.
Im still sensing 'gimmick' I mean, some of the PS3 stuff has just been, well movie like, its astonishing.
Sonys E3 press conference is great to watch, some of the tech demos are amazing, the real-time duck in the bath, with a man using a red and green cup to actually scoop up water via an eye-toy is just crazy, it works so well.
thats the kind of thing Nintendo should be doing, but you know they dont have the power.
