The machine is indeed powerfull, and capable of running the Unreal 3 engine, which is deff somthing to shout about.
those 3 power PC chips have huge potential......... (notice my lil dots here)
Problem is, PS3 has the all mighty cell chip, a 10 core multi cpu set not just to make PS3 great but PC computing, it has silly power, and its a true breakthrough in graphical terms.
But where as you will see X2 this year, sorry XBOX 360, PS3 is still some time away, early next year at best.
ill update this post with a video of XBOX 360 in action in a few moments...

I belive thats what they have running onit so far....... a PS3 that has an OS? oh my head hurts!
then again, Ive seen some nifty PSP hacks running Lunix based systems already, that way you can get all your emulators on your PSP... all you need then is a bigger flash mem card, like one of them 2GB ones for $400...

Yep, even with DS down and running here, with PSP delayed due to unit shortages, the PSP is just amazing, its beautiful, its unfair to compare both units, but you will. where DS is fun novelty, PSP is serious powered gamming, and it has all the media options u expect of a machine now.
the XBOX 360 does do some clever XP intergration tho, heres a link for ppl to watch.

You're loaf of bread was once alive? o.O
Edge article's interesting Mark. It's what we guessed MS were doing anyway, their big plan is still to be the provider of a complete media experience. Essentially ever since they ran up against the EU and East Asian legislation which was intending (and still is) to break their monopoly, the strategy became to integrate everything into one package so you ram it down people's throats.
imo in the end it will come down to a duel between Windows and Linux. Ones free, the other not. One has huge resources to throw at making easily useable software, the other must have interfaces developed from scratch.
Course the big thing against MS will always be the cost of their software and licences imho. It's the one major chink they've got, as their useability and market dominance normally serves enough to counteract their poor security and customiseability record.
It's rather ironic really, Gatesy's strategy from all those years ago back in the 70's is still the driving force in computer software- software which is easy to use and unsecure/unstable will always beat software which is secure/reliable but harder to use. I think it's a question of how far Linux can develop in terms of useability that will decide it.
On a sidenote, opensource software has for the first time overtaken proprietary software. Okay, we're normally used to Linux having to play catchup to the latest features in Windows, but Beagle just came out.
Remember all that stuff we were saying about how Longhorn would have the uber searching powers? Words in documents, tracks from albums, IM conversations, web history, people you've sent emails to, dates you organised a meeting on... Beagle does it all at lightning speed. A similar feature is also available in OSX 10.4 when it comes out.
Longhorn's version is still months away.
Maybe the tide is finally turning?

To quote edge on the DS, 'as realism dominates more and more, the ds, with titles like this *(kirby canvas), meteos and Electroplankton, is becoming a bastion of pure invention'Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Yep, even with DS down and running here, with PSP delayed due to unit shortages, the PSP is just amazing, its beautiful, its unfair to compare both units, but you will. where DS is fun novelty, PSP is serious powered gamming, and it has all the media options u expect of a machine now.

I would be inclined to agree, i cant wait to get my PSP, but there is far more DS stuff that excites me.
The new Xbox is on MTV at 8 tonight, first impressions are that the rolling demos are crap.
I think it looks very pretty (the machine) there is no way i will buy one at launch though. Im not getting stung by Microsoft again.

I predict that that PSP will be the first real challenge to the Gameboy line of handhelds (the decision to not allow older GB games on the DS seems incredibly stupid on Nintendo's part). However, with a library of thousands of games, it's going to be difficult for the PSP to get in. Though, thanks to pirated emulators/ROMS, most of those games can be played on the PSP... The high asking price of PSP games has certainly stopped me from buying one, though I've never been more of a casual gamer (at best). Hell, I've never even played Halo (which makes my views on games pretty much null and void).

New system looks sweet. Saw a frame from in game footage of "The Godfather" and it looked fantastic.
Obviously graphics aren't gameplay etc etc.
However, that being said, it's hard to stop a juggernaut like MS, when it decides to make the uber console.

I wont wank as I dont want to feel guilty. ~ Snarl
The ironic thing being that the 360 will probably be less powerful than the ps3 , but MS have adopted the Nintendo approach of trying to innovate to get gamers interested.Computron wrote:New system looks sweet. Saw a frame from in game footage of "The Godfather" and it looked fantastic.

I hopefully think that X360's early jump on the market, focus on online gaming and content, and vastly improved third party support will give it the strength to beat the PS3, which clearly is going to be ahead of the X360 graphically.
Let's not forget, Xbox has more processing and better graphics then PS2, but the PS2's saturation and third party support were what gave it the win in this development cycle. I do NOT think X360 will die because it came out too early a la Dreamcast. Plus, it remains to be seen how programmer friendly the two systems are.
AND I believe MS is planning to release Halo 3 on the PS3's launch date.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Nintendo come up with something good. The Gamecube was a damn fine little machine, it's just that no one made games for it. Nintendo keeps on saying it's going to be revolutionary, and change the way you look at games, but they've said that before and then turned around and gave us Virtual Boys and GC-GBA connectivity.

the GC was a wasted machine due to Nintendo not pulling thier finger out of its arse.
the XBOX 360 has invotave ideas when it comes to gamming life as a whole. see my video link.
The PS3 is way more powerfull.
the DS is invotaive, its just the PSP is sexy... and will sell more, and then devs will make all the games for it etc... you know what I mean, im not slagging the DS, its just Sony has a slick and simple product.

There's only one handheld worth playing with. And it ain't no console. But it IS 'wipe-clean'.Karl Lynch wrote:The PSP looks awesome tho, I can't help but feel sorry for Nintendo really. It looks like they've finally lost the console war and now it looks like the PSP will kick them out of the handheld market too
Sorry, I'm in this weird double-entendre mood today.
I quite like the look of the rubber-keyed 48K Spectrum myself.
