London

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I'm here (on Queen's Gate Terrace in Kensington, if anyone wants to come over...) and it is EXPENSIVE! I had 2500 dollars which has now become 1200 pounds for Chrissy and I on a six week trip that includes side jaunts to Ireland, Scotland and Germany.

And of course the exchange rate hasn't caught up, so now I feel like a worker from a poor country. Which I guess is a good way to feel as far as international understanding and all that goes, but not good when you're hungry and you've spent all your money for the day.

Other than that, a nice place. I hate smokers in restaraunts, but that's only really a California thing to ban. Nice museums. Saw a decent play last night, another one tonight, probably another tomorrow night. Good subway system. Lots of pretty scenery. Still can't get used to looking the other way for cars.

Yeah, London's one of the most expensive places in the UK—as I recall, McDonald's standardise prices across the country, so that's always one fairly cheap place to snack if you don't mind fast food. Look for small bakeries and such, and find a bit of green to picnic in would be another suggestion.

I take it the travel/accommodation is already worked out?

I didn't say you had to BUY anything. I know they're flippin' expensive - I just meant go and check them out for TF fun. It's nice to see cool stuff actually in the shops as compared to your computer monitor - you can pick it up and have a good looksee.

I want to go to London! And I will once I win the lottery... if I ever get around to buying a ticket.

I'd stop by but swimming in salt water does horrible things to my hair. ;) Hope you're having/had fun!

Shave your head (or whatever hair you meant ;) ) - that'll solve the problem.
Of course, you DON'T have to SWIM there, y'know.

I've got some wood we can string together for a raft.

Think about it, 3-4 weeks to cross the ocean, with just me as your talking companion.

You'll actually look forward to meeting the UK'ers after that experience!

HEY NOW! We UK'ers are a nice friendly bunch of folks. (shoots dog between the eyes - it was a cute dog too).

And I'll BET you have some 'wood' available. :p

I'll be here till freakin' June 15th. Get your raft on. Or on your raft.

I went to some markets in Salisbury and Bath where they had some old comics. I really just want to buy TF back issues for the novelty value, since I could never get them in California. Anyone know where there are some hanging about?

I really should find out my phone number so we can get a gig together... I'm free all day tomorrow (sunday). Next post. And I saw the Cosmonaut's Last Message at the Donmar warehouse. It was good. The Dresser, at the Duke of York's, was a little dated. And museums.. the V and A is good. The Theatre Museum was a not as cool as I hoped. The Clink was pretty cool for three pounds. And I took a tour of Jack the Ripper's spots with a lady who described in minute detail the corpses. Breasts on the table and intestines spread across the room, all that.

I found out my number, but I'm not sure how well it works. Call 02078237440 and ask for room 23. I'll be around all week and going to Scotland on Friday. I'll give Paul a call, too, to set something up.

It is now pushing 11 and possibly too late to call or something. Where, when, and why will we have this shindig?

It prolly doesn't help that you're in the more expensive side of town either!

I'll take your wood, though... I hope you like duct tape.[/disregard for obvious puns]

I won't have to put up with it, I'm sure. Can you swim with your arms and legs bound? :o

Yes.

Not well though.

That tends to result in my swallowing a lot of water, which I'm sure you've intended.

I just read that seven million people (and a couple of perverts) live in London.
Here I was... thinking that London only had about three million citizens.
Yay me and my knowledge.
Can't believe I'm still here.

I don't live in London - so I know I'm not one of the couple you mention. I didn't even realise they were a couple either - I thought they were just good friends.
London DOES indeed only have three million citizens - the rest are people kidnapped by Londoner pervs and kept in cupboards.
