I'm assuming that the disappointed ones were those that had seen the original animation. I had not, so I was coming to it cold, and only really bought it 'cos of the nice robot pictures on the back of the box.
I got the 'Steel Case' version which was 2 disc, but now I find there's a 3 disc one with a huge 'making of...' Gah!
As I said when I posted this topic, it was a visually stunning film, as that's mostly what I liked about it. Because there was no dubbed version - and due to my problems with reading sometimes - my enjoyment of the film was rather impared by trying to keep up with the subtitles. Luckily, most of the actual dialogue could be ignored, because the action was fairly easy to follow, although I did go back and watch it again so I could check out the story properly - which seems to be the usual asian 'war is bad' apocalypse themed story.
Personally, I most enjoyed the giant robot fight with Casshern - which kicks the arse of anything The Matrix tried - and I wish there had been more of it in the film.
I can understand why people would have been divided on the movie, but I recommend that you all check it out for yourselves if you can and make your own decisions about whether it's a good movie or not.
