And the new pope is...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Anyone else see Swing Kids? The line gets pretty thin with the whole conscription thing... but apparently dancing helps to fight it.

No, seriously, how much of a philosophy can someone swallow without realizing it? Honestly, how much did Pope Palpatine realy believe and how much did he actually know was wrong? Has this been discussed?

Oh, and Karl, there are good religious people out there. They're just never in the news, and they rarely brag about it, since their actions represent their beliefs more fully.

I've never yet encountered someone who fully subscribes to an organised 'sect' which didn't have wacky beliefs, normally about me or people/situations I care about. The best 'religious' people I've met consider themselves spiritual- be they born again Christians or whatever. They look inside themselves for their answers.

As oppose to the Pope, who's most recent set of dictats describe all homosexuals as wicked and deplorable with damaged minds and declaring women should either be virgins or mothers. (The Times, last week). But I suppose that's all okay, he's the Pope and reads from a really old book so he's allowed (to be an evil old ****** who can rot in whatever hell he subscribes to imo).

Doesn't change the fact that he actually won more of the state's votes than Bush did - therefore, by rights, he should have won the election. Hence the US system is proved capable of being subverted.
What votes are you talking about? Only "Legal votes" were counted. Those that showed a definitive choice for president. The others were tossed out. FL law cannot be thought to require the counting of improperly marked ballots.
The recounts they actually carried out only covered those certain counties. It's been shown that if the entire state had been recounted, then Gore would have won. Simple as that. That's what I said. Of course, it also depends on what you mean by improperly marked ballots. Ballots where there was a clear mark indicating the choice should, in my opinion, always be counted. If there was a hanging chad, or the voting machine made a clear mark for the candidate, then it's obvious which way the voter intended to vote - that means you're disqualifying their vote on the basis of the voting machine not working. At least in the UK we still use paper ballots where that kind of mistake can't happen. Plus, of course, there's all those voters who intended to vote for Gore, but whose votes were wrongly recorded as votes for another candidate... In short, voting machines suck.
