Has anyone played the Judge Dredd FPS game? When this game was released, I went to every videogame store in the area only to be told that, not only did they not order any copies, they wouldn't special order it either. Out of nowhere, a package shows up at my door and inside is the PS2 version of the game. My girlfriend won a copy on ebay for me.
Score!
I've been playing the game on and off for a couple days and I've come to the conclusion that, if you're a Dredd fan, this game is great. The creators did enough research on the character to keep it interesting. It's got the controls of 007 Goldeneye/Timesplitters, and features enough stuff pulled directly from 2000AD to keep fans interested. Graphically, it's not great. It's not terrible, but there's nothing groundbreaking. It has enough game modes to keep it interesting. Tons of multi-player modes, a bunch of different arcade modes (Walters Wobot Wampage and Block War are hilarious), and a satisfying story mode.
If you're NOT a Dredd fan, you're probably not going to enjoy the game so much. Some of Dredd's one-liners, if you're not familiar with the comics, would come off as mean instead of funny.
The same day the package arrived DC comics announced that they were discontinuing their association with 2000AD. So, once again Dredd material is difficult to aquire in the states. Highs and lows, I guess.

Hmm, I'm a Dredd fan and I thought it wasn't up to much, really.
Well, OK, I thought it was a good laugh untill about 3/4 of the way through the Iso-Cubes level when the 'If I'm gonna play this style of FPS I'd rather just play Timesplitters 2' feeling kicked in, and didn't go away.
Still finished it mind, but only coz messing about with the lawgiver and shouting 'HI-EX!' etc. at my monitor was pretty fun.

I don't think they could possibly have pulled off the lawgiver any better.KingMob wrote:Hmm, I'm a Dredd fan and I thought it wasn't up to much, really.

Re: Judge Dredd
I always thought that was the point. 'Dredd' is often a satire, and it has a very black sense of humor.Professor Smooth wrote: Some of Dredd's one-liners, if you're not familiar with the comics, would come off as mean instead of funny.

Exactly. It's meant as satire. I shudder to think that people play the game and listen to Dredd grunt, "Grr...Bleeding heart liberals..." before going off to judge the protesters.jboyler wrote:I always thought that was the point.
