Reading a Hotmail account into an email client

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Reading a Hotmail account into an email client

Post by Dylan » Fri Apr 08, 2005 7:48 pm

Hey hey guys and gals, I'm back from Norway! It was mucho fun and everything, more on that later probably. Hope you are all ok.

I have a question:

I'm using MS Outlook (2002), and use it to haul in my email from several accounts. One of those is my Hotmail account, which up until last week worked perfectly. Now, however, it keeps on giving me errors - it simply can't log onto the server appearantly, even though the info is correct. If I go directly through www.hotmail.com , everything's normal.

Did anything chance in the past week or so?

There are a few solutions on SourceForge. I don't have a Hotmail account any longer, so the only webmail -> POP3 interface I've used is YahooPops, and that was a one-time thing to get data out of the account.

Thanks, Denyer, it seems there is indeed something weird going on. You'd assume Microsoft Outlook is allowed to import Hotmail...

I guess I should slowly get rid of my Hotmail account, after 5 years or so. Hrm. If it weren't for the huge amounts of spam, I could just leave it be and check it only once a week or so.

Cheers again.

Always worth having a couple of throwaway dumping accounts, I reckon. Found Hotmail to be particularly unmanageable, though—perhaps it was just that it was a fairly early account. Yahoo is a bit nicer for disposable stuff, interface-wise.
